[1]ISG Support Top Banner [2]Global Navigation Firmware Upgrades for the 4020i _________________________________________________________________ The firmware in the 4020i CD-Writer can be upgraded with these programs. This allows you to have a 4020i that has all of the capabilities of the latest 4020i drives. The 6020 drives' firmware can not be upgraded in the field. If there are newer firmware versions in the future for the 6020, they would need to be installed at HP. The 6020 drive firmware performs its intended purpose very well, though, so there may not be a future need for new firmware versions. _________________________________________________________________ Software License & Disclaimer Use of the software from this site is subject to the Hewlett-Packard software license terms set forth in the [3]"Hewlett-Packard Software License Agreement". If you receive a "Medium not present" error, just press OK. 4. The drive's firmware revision is listed on the top right-hand side of the screen, very close to the OK button. 5. Press OK. Other Operating Systems: Hewlett-Packard Company does not support the HP 4020i on any operating system other than those listed above. Do not attempt to run the firmware upgrade on any operating system other than Windows 3.x or Windows 95. _________________________________________________________________ BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY FIRMWARE UPGRADE: 1. Close down any open applications. 2. Remove any CDs from the CD-Writer drive. 3. Verify that your SCSI host adapter is properly configured and is operating. 4. Verify that your CD-Writer currently has firmware 1.20 or later BEFORE upgrading to firmware 1.27. If your drive has a firmware version older than 1.20, download and run the 1.20 upgrade first. _________________________________________________________________ WARNINGS: If your CD-Writer currently has firmware 1.14 installed, you must first upgrade to firmware 1.20 before upgrading to 1.27. Both upgrade programs are available below Once the upgrade is running Do not turn the power off to your computer until the upgrade operation is complete. Failure to comply could result in an unusable drive. Do not downgrade from a newer version of firmware to an older version of firmware! Doing so can damage the drive. The HP SureStore CD-Writer firmware upgrade utilities are Windows programs that can be run from Windows 95 or Windows 3.xx. This program will not run from DOS or Windows NT. Attempting to run a firmware upgrade under an unsupported operating system will void the 4020i warranty. _________________________________________________________________ Instructions: Windows 3.x 1. Ensure the CD-Writer is connected to a SCSI Host Adapter, your ASPI Manager is loaded, and the CD-Writer is properly identified upon the boot of your computer. 2. Start Windows. 3. From Program Manager select File, then Run and type in the program name (example: a:\cdr_f127.exe) and press Enter. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 5. Wait for the on-screen counter to count down to zero, and for all LEDs on the CD-Writer to stop flashing. 6. Exit Windows and Reboot the system. Windows 95 1. Close all applications except Explorer. 2. Select "START" on the Taskbar and then "RUN". 3. Type in the path to the firmware upgrade program (example: a:\cdr_f127.exe). 4.
