If practical, remove all other PC cards from your system. 2. Put the card in the slot only when instructed to do so by the SETUP program or by the procedures in the manual. ============================================================ Problem Installations --------------------- If your first attempt at installing the card is unsuccessful for any reason, your best course may be to 1. Remove the LAN+Modem card and its software from your system. 2. Remove all other PC cards from your system. 3. Repeat the installation procedures with a clean system. Use the UNINSTALL utility to remove the LAN+Modem card software from your system. This utility looks for LAN+Modem card-related files that were changed during installation and restores them to their prior versions. Several factors can contribute to unexpected problems during installation, including: - The manufacturer and model of your notebook computer. - The manufacturer and model of your computer's PCMCIA controller chip. - The version of operating system installed. - The version of network operating system you are using. - The number and type of peripheral cards installed on your machine. If you encountered unexpected problems under DOS, Windows 95, or Windows NT, there could be a problem in your BIOS. Check with your computer manufacturer regarding whether your BIOS needs to be updated. You should also consider whether your Windows environment is unstable due to frequent and repeated attempt to install or remove other hardware and software components. If your operating system is carrying baggage left over from previous changes of any kind to the system configuration, you should start with a new installation of the operating system. ============================================================ Where to Find Additional Information ------------------------------------ The latest information on the LAN+Modem card, including installation updates, network drivers, firmware updates, and the tips for specific operating systems, network operating systems, and hardware platforms, see the 3Com World Wide Web site at HTTP://WWW.3COM.COM. Locate the Support area and select Network Interface Cards. You can also obtain the latest drivers the 3Com Support BBS at 1-408-980-8204. ============================================================ CardBus and PCMCIA ------------------ Because of limitations in Microsoft's CardBus support, you cannot use 16- and 32-but cards in the same system. Be aware that there could be compatibility issues using the LAN+Modem card in a CardBus system. ============================================================ Windows 95 ---------- The information in the User's Guide for LAN+Modem card is current; however the user may want to refer to TROUBLE.TXT or W95NDIS3.TXT for more information. ============================================================ Windows NT ---------- While the instructions in the manual will be sufficient for a majority of installations, the customer may want to refer to WINNT.TXT for more detailed information. ============================================================ Firmware Upgrades ----------------- If any firmware update are available, you can find them at our Website (www.3Com.com).
