FUTURE DOMAIN CORPORATION FDU-CD CD-ROM Device Driver Version 2.20 I. GENERAL PRODUCT OVERVIEW: 1) Product description: The FDU-CD CD-ROM device driver program is to be used with Future Domain SCSI Host adapters to support one or more CD-ROM drives on a DOS-based host system. The device driver can support from 1 to 24 CD-ROM drives (via up to 4 SCSI adapters) on the PC, PC/XT, PC/AT and Micro Channel Architecture (PS/2) environments. 2) Table of supported CD-ROM drives: MANUFACTURE MODEL NUMBERS ----------- ---------------------------------- Chinon CDX-431 Denon DRD-253 Hitachi CDR-3650U, CDR-1750S LMSI CM-131, CM-214 NEC CDR-35, CDR-36, CDR-72, CDR-73, CDR-80, CDR-83 Panasonic CR-501, LK-MC501 Pioneer DRM-600/610 Sony CDU-541, CDU-6110, CDU-6111, CDU-6211, CDU-7211 Texel DM-3020, DM-3021 DM-3120, DM-5020, DM-5021, DM-5120 Toshiba XME-2100A, XME-3100A, XME-3201B, XME-3301TA, XME-5100A NOTE: The Denon CD-ROM drive is supported only on our TMC-8xx (8-bit) adapters. When used with our TMC-16xx (16-bit) adapters, DOS will not be able to recognize media changes. II. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum 512KB of System Memory needed by INSTALL program. (This amount of memory is required by the automatic installation program - INSTALL.EXE. Refer to "Manual Installation" in the CD-ROM device driver Installation Manual Guide, if you cannot run the automatic installation program.) - MS or PC DOS Version 3.x - 5.0x. - MS DOS Extensions Version 2.20 (may be included) - A Hard Disk Drive. (Optional) (Not necessary for device driver or host adapter but may be necessary for some CD-ROM application programs.) III. CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS RELEASE: 1) Additional drives added: MANUFACTURE MODEL NUMBERS ----------- ---------------------------------- LMSI CM-214 NEC CDR-36, CDR-73, CDR-83 Poineer DRM-600/610 2) Changes were made to the driver to provide support for the Microsoft Multimedia Extensions V1.0. IV. INSTALL/TECH TIPS: 1) Quick tips: a) New command line parameter - /I If this switch is not specified, the driver will not return an "Invalid Disc Change" error if the SAME disc is reinserted into the drive. This may cause a problem if two different disc's having the same volume size are being used. If you are experiencing this problem, specifying the /I switch will force the driver to always return an "Invalid Disc Change" error anytime a disc is changed. (SAME or DIFFERENT disc) usage: DEVICE=C:\DEV\FDCD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /I b) Denon DRD-253 DIP switch settings. You must set the DIP switches appropriately for the drive to use 2048 bytes per sector. This is done by setting switches SW4 and SW5 to the ON (down) position. c) LASTDRIVE = Z in the CONFIG.SYS file. The install program will default to using drive letter 'Z'. This drive letter should be changed so that DOS does not reserve more drive letters than are necessary. example: if you have one fixed drive with two partitions using drive letter C & D and one CD-ROM drive using drive letter E, set LASTDRIVE to E (LASTDRIVE = E). This is very important for Network users so that drive letters will be available to access Network drives as in a Novell environment. d) You can remove the BIOS chip on our SCSI controller if there are no fixed drives attached. This will allow the system to boot-up much more quickly since the SCSI bus is not scanned by the BIOS upon boot-up. 2) The following Software has been thoroughly tested with the supported drives: DISCOVERY SYSTEMS: - Sampler MICROSOFT: - TESTDRV.EXE (CD-ROM device driver test program) - CDSPEED.EXE (CD-ROM Data Streaming Transfer Rate Test V1.00a) - Windows 3.0 with Multimedia extensions V1.0 - BookShelf - Programmer's Library - Musicbox with a variety of audio discs NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY: - Mammals: A Multimedia Encyclopedia SIERRA ONLINE: - Mother Goose SOFTWARE TOOLWORKS - CD GAME PACK - ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA - US ATLAS - WORLD ATLAS NOTE: The driver will work under Windows 3.0 in REAL, STANDARD and ENHANCED mode. Depending on the application being used, you may be limited to using REAL mode. Contact the manufacture of the application for compatibility under Windows. 3) Limitations: a) The following drives do not support Audio Channel Manipulation: - NEC CDR-35 (supports stereo & mute mode) - Sony CDU-6111-01 (supports stereo mode only) V.
