CD-ROM INSTALLATION LATEST INFORMATION ====================================== This file contains information not available during the printing of the manual. Please read it's contents before you proceed with any installation procedure. This file contains the following sections : 1. QuickCD 2. I/O port address 1. QUICKCD The QuickCD application plays audio CDs in DOS and Windows. The mixer button in the Windows QuickCD will not be supported if you do not have a Sound Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster 16. 2. I/O PORT ADDRESS When you connect your audio card to the drive, you need to define the port that your card's IDE interface uses. There are four IDE ports from which you can select: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Quaternary. These ports are industry standards for the combination of I/O addresses and IRQ line used by your IDE interface (see Table 1-1). Table 1-1: Standard settings for the respective IDE ports. IDE Port IRQ Lines I/O Addresses Used Primary 14 1F0H to 1F7H, 3F6H to 3F7H Secondary 15 170H to 177H, 376H to 377H Tertiary (Default) 11 or 12 1E8H to 1EFH Quaternary 10 or 11 168H to 16FH The names of these IDE ports do not indicate any kind of sequence for adding IDE devices. Also, you can only connect two IDE devices to each IDE port in a system. These devices will use the same I/O addresses and IRQ line. The primary port should be used only if the IDE device is connected to the hard disk controller card. ********** End of README.TXT **********
