Door glass: Difference between conv and coupe?

Postby christer » 22 Nov 2013 8:55

Hi!

I am more or less convinced that the convertibles have thicker door glass compared to the coupes. Can anybody confirm this? If YES, how big is the difference? Thanks! :D

I know you asked about thickness, should be pretty easy to measure? :)

Anyway, thought main difference was top left corner of door glass. If you put ht glass on convertible you have leak on that corner and might not even realize just thinking it's due very poor fitment of parts. Or maybe it was opposite, but you get the point. If you can find picture of 70-71 e-body convertible with door open and window up difference might even be visible?

Part numbers are different also. Below is from 1970-71 passenger car parts catalog (January 1972 edition) page 23-171 (page 1835 of 2303 on PDF). Right side, even numbers.

Code 23-64-308
GLASS
FRONT DOOR WINDOW
Clear, Barracuda/Challenger, 23/2DR HT & 29/FAST BACK, 2895686-7
Tinted, Barracuda/Challenger, 23/2DR HT & 29/FAST BACK, 2895688-9
Clear, Barracuda/Challenger, 27/CONV.CPE, 3440320-1
Tinted, Barracuda/Challenger, 27/CONV.CPE, 3440322-3

For hardtop quarter glasses are listed with different code between Challenger and Barracuda as expected. Convertible quarter glasses have same part number for both.
