Chapter Two... Body work

Postby cv70chall » 29 Jul 2013 14:49

I had our step son over for a couple of weeks recently and I came home from work to find some damage to my car.
Apparently, he said he had left the garage door open and some gas had come out of the cap and ran down the fender. Instead of leaving it alone/ rinsing it with water, he opted to take my orbital sander with a buffing wheel I had on the work bench (I was planning on buffing out the car over the weekend) and "buff off" the gas.
Now, without going into any detail I was now put in a position where this had to get fixed.
Sooo, into the body shop she went. I'm having this completely redone, the rear window removed and re-sealed with new clips and all the small dings/ chips and other little areas fixed that we managed to do by accident during those months/ years of rebuilding this car.
The process is going to take a couple of weeks and when she's done- she'll have a fresh coat of paint and all new decals including the hood blackout.
I will provide pics of the progress and finished (2nd time) product.

Aah...the joys of kids.

As promised. Photos.
I'm having all the little areas that were "suspect" and several that I knew needed attention now rather than later addressed. The rear window had been installed terribly prior to my taking the car so metal was replaced and sealed with a polymer.
Passenger side fender and door (typical for these cars) are being addressed with new metal as well along with the tail panel and two spots on the tops of the fenders.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the right rear quarter where the step son did the damage that made all this work possible.

Uh...thanks.
