Shock rust horror!!

There's a patch of steel needs replacing on the drivers side rear qtr just between the door and the arch, I can see a few lumps appearing under the paint
I know it's a 41 year old car that's never been welded but it's still a shock to me....... I've got my DA ready to sand back the paint to have a look but Is there anything tricky behind that area? I can see patch panels available from almost any body for that part do no sweat there, I can tack it in ok too

I can see some 'bubblin" on my 72 in that area as well. I;m sure it's just roughed in bondo, I sanded it down to a pink material which of course is "Mud". I'm gonna wait on mine Ade, get it running, then after some seat time, re-paint it and fix any metal work. We may have to hand form patch panels, but it shouldn't be that big of a job. As you know, surface prep and metal finishing is key.

That is where all the water hitting the rear quater glass ends up. Mine were very rusty on the inside but thankfully had never come through. It got the same treatment as all the other inside panel faces I could get to. Rust converter, paint and waxoil.

The only thing the other side of it Ade is the bottom of the glass winder. There is an adjustment there for the angle the glass comes up. But the wheel arch has two (or three I think?) parts of bodywork/frame welded together in there.

Make sure the rocker drain is open in that location. It could be blocked.

I have the same issue, I ended up using a hole saw down inside the rear 1/4 window to make a drain hole they dont seem to have one in that location
