Just curiosity...
You have done many things to your Chally, but never try to install the '71 R/T Challenger's Ramcharger in your hood?

I don't know what you mean Ciampone. Is this some sort of air system? Are you talking about the 1970-71 shaker hood scoop? I don't like them on Challengers so much. They look better on 'Cudas to me. Just my personal taste. I also think the two scoop Challenger hood is better looking than the Plymouth version. And the T/A scoop is fantastic. The AAR thing never worked.

I like very much the black t/a's hood on Challengers and Shaker 'Cudas but I was talking about the sculptural R/T hood (as You have).
I read in a mopar's book that in 1971 they add a ramcharger intake sistem to the r/t hood. They used the two original openings to put air directly to the air filter...
Isn't?

That is not true. The two scoop hood never had anything connecting it to the air filter. You can't always believe what you read! Which book was that?

American Muscle by Randy Leffingwell....
Here is what He says at page 157 and 158 (about a '71 blue Challenger R/T hemi) :
pag 157 : "The Hemi's shaker hood was eliminated, replaced by two functional hood scoops"
pag 158 : "Two functional slash hood scoops fed outside air into the hemi"

After talking to you I look at a photo of that car with the open hood... the photo is little, but there isn't any type of air intake in the hood... I must have to check before talk!
Dave, You have got the target another time!
I'm kleeling down in front of my pc to excuse...

A guy I used to know was selling his 1970 Challenger and a guy came to look at it with his son. In fact I think the car was for his son.
Anyway. The point is that they tried to knock the price down a lot because "the air box for the ram-air is missing".
When it was pointed out to them that this hood never had that sort of system they laughed and walked away. Never came back.
So you are not the only one Ciampone!

In fact I remember now they got quite nasty about it. Said the seller was trying to con them.

Dave,
I can assure You that I'm a very hard headed guy!... I was so convinced about '71 ramcharger that in these days I started re-re-read all my Mopar's books in my free time....
I found something else about in another book : "Chrysler, Dodge & Plymouth MUSCLE" by Antony Young, do You know?
At page 116 He says about a (very rare) Hemi Orange '71 R/T 426 Hemi Chally :
"...Hoodscoops became functional with installation of the Ramcharger that came as part of the 426 Hemi option."
So He says that only Hemi engined Challengers have that, maybe? Or another error by a different autor?

Mmm. Yes I have that book and i just looked at the car in question. Don't show you under the hood though does it?
Well I have never heard or seen this option but then I have never seen a 1971 hemi Challenger. They only made 75 of them and it says 71 in that book so he got that wrong (70 for usa and 5 for canada) and he is saying this was an option with this hood so not all of the cars with this hood would have got it?
Well I know 102 R/T challengers got the shaker that year too (hemi + 440+6) so there cannot be many of the hemi cars with this hood to start with.
I tell you what. You show me a picture of one of these ramchargers (if it exists) and I will send you a present as a reward.
I will look into it as well.
Anyone else ever see one?

I have the original dealer brochures from 1971, both the 1971 Dodge Scat Pack and Dart/Demon/Challenger brochure. The closest thing under Challenger is the list of options showing the Challenger R/T, and it states, "Perfomance hood with detachable scoop plates." The Scat Pack brochure takes out the word "Scoop" from the list, but does mention under the Charger the optional Ramcharger hood (illustrating it). The Scat Pack brochure can't be too relied upon, however, as it shows a picture of a 1971 T/A that never was produced! It mentions "Fiber-glass hood with Fresh Air Pack." Thus, the closest to the answer is a car that was never produced. But never say never with a Mopar!
I also have a period piece from 1971 that lists the cost for every option on the car, as well as a "Low Cost" option if you got a good deal. Shaker hood was listed as a $115 option, but right below that is the $173 option for a Fiberglass with Fresh Air Hood. So apparently the option did exist even if the T/A didn't!

Thanks Jeff.
So there is no mention of a fresh air pakage for the two scoop hood. The plates in the front of the scoops were always detachable so no change there.

Jeff, great to have such a brochure! I would love to see such one some day. Do you by any chance have the possibility to put this brochure on the web?

I have not bought a scanner, so I'm behind the curve in that respect. When I do, I'll get you a scanned copy plus make it available to Dave to post. Apparently that picture of the 1971 T/A is unique. I think Dave is the one who told me the car never ever existed, it was simply air brushed as a 1971.

Conclusion...
I think that only when (and if...) I'll see a '71 Chally Hemi R/T with that air induction system, "Ramcharger" or something else, then, only then, I'll say that it exist. Not at second before!
Hi!
