Does anyone know where, or if, the stamping dies for the '71 Challenger front fenders still exsist and if so does anyone know who has them?. I'am in desperate need of a pair. All help greatly appreciated. Nice new format Dave.

these dies were scraped in the mid 1970s by the chrysler. all you will find are used parts.

Check with Jim's Auto Parts. They have both 70/71 and 72-74 repro front fenders for $399 each. The web address is www.jimsautoparts.com.

You could get two fenders on the 1970 R/T. One for 14" wheels and one for 15" wheels.

In 1971 you could only get the 15" type on the R/T.

I have no idea if, what or where a part number would be.

How does one tell the difference between the 14" and 15" fenders?

I've been trying to find out for years Jack. I am only going on the infomation in Paul Herds book and one or two other sources that may be using his book as a source as well!

A mate of mine has a '73 and at the time of this story I had 14" ralleys on the front of my car with 245/60 rubber. There is nothing about my car that would suggest it came with 15" wheels originally. I do not have the build sheet so I will never know for sure. There is nothing on the tag that would give me 15" wheels for sure.

His fender looks just the same to me except for the marker light of course.

He tried to fit the same size tyres on his and they would not fit. However he has custom wheels so maybe the offset is wrong.

I now have 15"x8" whels with 245/60 rubber on the front of my car but as you know I had to cut the lip to get away with that.

In Paul Herds ”Challenger & Barracuda Restoration Guide” you can read this:

”Challengers (built 1970) used three different sets of fenders. Like Barracudas, those with F60x15 tires required special fenders. While the AAR Cuda used the same set of fenders used on Cudas with 340-ci engine, the Challenger T/A model used a unique set of fenders. Those from a regular Challenger or one with F60x15 tires will not fit the T/A model, as it used a special radius in the wheel opening and no chrome wheelwell moulding was used.”

”Like the Barracuda, the 1971 Challenger with F60x15 tires required special fenders. But unlike the Cuda, the Challenger R/T did not require a unique set of front fenders.”

1972-1974 Challengers all use the same front fenders.

Hope this information is of intrest for some of you….

I have seen a notch cut out of 70-71 fenders that is under the hood at the very front, why is that there?I have a perfect set of 71 fenders that have that notch cut out,and my 70 has only one fender that is cutout.
