These are the letters that appear on the rear panel just below the trunk lock on my '72. The panel is concave just enough to make it look like special letters are used. Is this right, or can I use the ones same as for the hood :?:

Also want to source some nice wheel arch trims, need a full set. I like the ones that have the fine ribbed finish to the inner edge of the arrch. Who does a nice set :?:

Special letters are used. They are not interchangeable. What a pity, right? :s023:

Used Hood letters about $40+
NOS Hood letters about $140+

i have found the average cost for the D-O-D-G-E letters on Ebay or resto is about $20 each ! And i have never seen the rear panel ones for sale either. Although i havn't looked lately

As for the wheel arch trims, i have bought two sets from DCS.com (Dales Cuda Shop). They are just great, even though repro they fit great. You will always have to redrill a few holes in the arch/moulding but they fit and look like factory. Not cheap and freight to Aust adds to it also but they are great to deal with, Michelle is good to talk to and deal with and she even sent me another section of striping when i emailed them and told her i had stuffed it up!! Pretty good service.

I think I'm gonna try and grind a bit off the spare letter that I got somewhere, to see if I can make the right profile without it being too thin and weak. If I grind it I'll need to coat it with something to stop the pot metal corroding. If that works I can get some used letters and have a go :idea:

Adrian, check this old thread for pic of '70 hood letters installed to '72-74 tail panel. Holes match but you end up with pretty big gap. I have my doubts about grinding them for better fit.

I wonder if you could heat them without spoiling the finish?

I bet they start to soften at a fairly low heat? :-?

One option of course might be buying new reproduction letters? Those can't be much worse than 40 year old ones that have been grinded and melted? :)
