full front floor pan replacement

Postby NCChallenger » 20 Jun 2010 13:38

Hey guys,

After closer inspection of my floor pans, I noticed there was a lot more rust hidden under the undercoating. I'm afraid my car is going to need much of the floor replaced. Since the trans tunnel was previously hacked up, I'm considering a full floor pan. However, before undertaking this task, I'd like to know from any of the members that have performed this, what is involved.

My main concern is how and to what extent the car needs to be supported as the old pan is cut out and the new one is installed.

1) Since my car is a hardtop, what is the best way to install the pan? The pan I was considering is the full front floor and is shown at this link

It doesn't look like it will simply slip through the window area.

2) I plan on putting the car on a rotisserie for other work. However, since the floor ties into the frame, I don't think the floor can be removed on a rotisserie without causing excessive distortion. How have others supported the car while removing/installing the pan?

3)How much modification of the pan is typically required?

Thanks,
Chris

dont be afraid to cut
weld some cross braces in the door openings
and a x brace in the rear
if the frame rails are not rusted the car will not move
i would do the floor pan will the car on the floor supported at suspension points
get out the cutting wheel and have some fun
heres a sample of what can be done look at this gto we did

with an empty shell, I supported/leveled the frame on four corners (no further than rocker ends). Once floor is out, you can fit the full floor in with the door open and rear quarter window down (with a slight bend). No sweat! Good luck.

i agree, since the car spends most of its life at those points,

look in his photos he has it supported on the suspension,

that is important,

not on the rockers, or the frame, on the axle , wheel area
