Rear Valance • The Dodge Challenger Message Board

I'm looking for a rear valance (without cutouts) for my 1970 Challenger SE. I prefer not to have reproductions but want to know:

1. Is there any reproductions that someone would recommend?
2. The mid-bracket are different (from what I know and have read here on the forum), what's the exact difference between the years?
3. I have stumbled upon a '73 valance, would that fit my car and in that case, what modifications would I have to do?

This is what it looks like now, but the plan is to get a new valance and to cut it slightly around the tips.

The 1970 valance is a one year only deal. The ones from later years can be made to work, but they will not mount the same.

I think I have one spare 1970 mounting bracket here somewhere, but I do not remember what side it is for.

Alaskan TA, What was different between the 70 and 71 (and 72 for that matter) rear valance? Was it only the way they mounted?

The newer ones have a different center section for sure vs. the dual brackets.

I have not done a side by side comparison with any of the newer style, so if there are other differences I have no way to know.

Actually, I am not even certain if 1971 uses the dual brackets or not? The one on my 71 had been changed & I never bothered to check it out.

The original 70 looks a lot tougher to install having to reach back there and install the fasteners. :s020:

I bought a new valence from the local Dodge dealer back in the mid eighties and it was the center mount from the later year model. That was all they had available.

You have to get on your back under the back of the car and reach up to the ends of the chassis legs to bolt them up. :wink:

The 1970 brackets are easy, bolt them to to the car first, then screw the valence to them. It is fully supported that way while you fit the ends.

Thanks Alaskan for posting the pictures! Most people I've talked to say that, with repros and 1972-74, I only need to cut away the licence plate bracket. The license lamp holders were obviously different or something? Well, anyone who has ANY rear valance in fair condition for sale out there, I'm interested! Preferably a fine one from 1970 ;-)

I was thinking of the bumper overriders and how they bolt to the chassis legs. :nod:

Well i bolted my 73 rear valance on and i definitely had to get on my back and on many other parts of my body to tighten the nuts onto the studs that stick through the lower rear quarter. Took over 40 minutes to get everything straight
