Fender Tag location

Postby rz9k67 » 25 Aug 2009 2:27

Anyone got a fix on exactly where the fender tag goes? When I had the car repainted we 'skimmed' the engine bay and the exterior (Skim: thin coat of body filler to ensure lazer straight panels). in the process a few holes were covered up, and I'd rather open up the original holes.

Optionally please post a hi rez photo with a ruler laid in for scale. A veritical shot would be best. I'll position the tag based on that.

Thanks in advance and keep the faith!

There is no exact location. Some of the cars that had holes for them pre-stamped still had the tags screwed in elsewhere.

From straight to crooked too, some of the assembly line guys jut did not care.

Thanks Alaskan, I shoulda guessed. I've just never focused on that until I lost my 'holes'.

That would fit the general antiestablishment attitude of the day. You'd think a simple drilling/punch template would have saved time/money?

I have seen screws that missed the hole in the tags competely & are out in the field / code section of the tag.

High powered pneumatic screwdivers are a wonderful thing. :D

Also, before doing any restoration, take LOTS of detail photos FIRST.

That way you have them when you need them.
