Remote rallye mirror cable routing

HI All, i did a search for this - i found the exact question way back in 2001 (Dave i don't think you came on line till 2002?) from a fellow - but there were only two replies and they were not sure either. I am fitting a remote rallye mirror to my 73. It had them from factory but gone when i bought the car. I cannot work out how it goes so it clears the window and the uprising roller. There is a small hole for the plastic loop retainer at the front edge of the door, but it makes the cable stretch out too much and the window fouls the cable.

I cannot find anything in my Body Service Manual about this. It should be in Sheetmetal-Doors.

I drilled a hole in the side intrusion bar which is on the inside and retained the cable along that. The cable lies very nicely now and it is almost there, but the front part still fouls the window. Anyone had any experience with this?

THanks

I just did this a year or so ago and don't remember having any difficulties? :?

I seem to remember a metal bracket on mine with a hole through it that the cables pass through. This holds the cables out of the way of the glass. At least that is how I remember it? :?

Me not online back in 2001?
I created the very first Challenger website in the '90s and the first message board a few years later. Some of those older posts are from an older version of the message board that I used to run myself.
JR offered to help me out as I was struggling with some of the technical issues I was running into. He offered to host the message board on his own server in Finland for free.
Which is why you will never see adverts, why there is no bandwidth/file size problems and why the board only rarely has issues with speed.

Mmm, maybe must be mistaken - the search for the remote mirror came up with various posts - in 2002, there was a fellow called Ropa-440: Dave-R and was put as "Guest". Maybe this was about that time? Anyway, this forum, technically is brilliant. Compared to the Aussie forum for Mopar it is streets ahead. I love how you can post pictures, no limit for the member and they have good sized thumbnails (which are displayed always) and can be blown up to two sizes sometimes. The aussie forum is very limiting there.

But to get back to the cable - the short story is that the cable will not work properly when it is positioned as in my 71. So i will just have to make up retainers. Also, your 70 had slightly different mirrors, the door internals are definitely different to a 72-74, esp in the window mechanism area. But its no huge deal, just thought someone with a 72-on might have remberered how it went.

Yep. That is me and me.
I think JR created this version of the Message board for us in 2003. Those older posts must have been transfered over from my original version of the message board which used a different software.

ahh. can't hide from them electrons, dasterdly little blighters.

Back to the mirror - just for interest, i bet my Challenger is the only one in the world that uses some Hoover washing machine parts. How so...? Well, just tonight i was hunting around for a suitable retainer to hold the remote cables back. I thought of using a cable tie, but then got imaginative and cannibalised a washer wiring harness retainer that pushes in to a hole and it works just great. Not only that, when i was fabricating some mounts for my fan shroud which is off a Commodore, i cut up some washing machine chassis for the 4 mounts. But no-one will ever know...!

never seen that on either of my cars. They had plastic push-in cable holders.
