71 RT stripes

HI - i have spent the last hour or so looking back through past posts for diagrams of the 71 stripe placement. I have finally found a post from 2004 from Dave on this, which is great

http://challenger.mpoli.fi/forum/viewto ... ht=stripes

BUT, Dave, would it be possible for you to re-post this post but in a bigger picture as i am having trouble seeing the dimensions. I need accurate dimensions on stripe placement as i am painting the fender now but only for a repair job, so i am masking up to the area where the blend will be and where the stripe covers which won't matter once the stripe is placed. I have been trying to rely on photos like these, see below, for stripe placement. Troubel is, there are so many repro stripes, no all are the same. Even factory pictures show the stripes in slightly different places.

I would appreciate the 71 diagram again, bigger if possible. Thanking you kindly.

I can read it fine?

You are clicking on the thumbnail to get the larger image aren't you? It comes up full screen for me?

yes, i.ve got full screen as well, its just hard to read, especially where i need it, at the fender area. I have downloaded it, i will just have to resize it up to get the detail. I mainly want the distances from waistline edge to bottom strip and from top of fender to top of stripe. Even if you resized it, it wouldn't make any difference than if i did it.

I'll see what i can do tonight to make it better. But i don't think the originals (on pdf files) are very good.

Have you tried looking at Barry's website to see if he has them?

Yes thanks, if they arn't much good, don't worry about it. i did think about teh Hamtramk site, then forgot! Thanks for reminding me, i'll have a look soon. However i have been taking measurements of my correct RT stripes i got from Dales Cuda Shop and on the fender and door and they are quite precise. I think it is close to 1 and 15/16" from top and bottom at the door end and stays at this from the waistline, getting slightly narrower from the top as it gets towards the front

I can't find the original scans and I think the pages I scanned are stored away in the loft somewhere.

I still cannot understand why you can't see the figures anyway? I can see them clearly on my monitor? What screen resolution are you using on your monitor? What size is your monitor?

Mine is only a 17 inch monitor at 1280x1024 resolution and I can still see the numbers even with a cheap little screen like this. :?

Try reducing your screen resolution and see if that helps.

Yes i think mine is a 17" screen (but that's big for me, i make a point of not "keeping up" with technology) and my resolution is about the same. All the chicks look great anyway...!

I can read it, its just a strain so I downloaded your pictures onto Paintshop Pro and zoomed up to 300% and can read them fine now. However they give all the dimensions in the top LH corner from a zero inch line and it is all a bit complicated. So i am just using the best tool know to man, the human eyes, and looking at close-ups of many RTs and measuring my own 71 RT stripes. They are from Dales Cuda Shop and are produced under licence from Chrysler and they supply all the resto places as well as Year One, so they are accurate. The door stripe has a cutout for the handle so its easy to get that accurate, the fender stripe starts in the middle of the upper portion, so its quite easy once you start looking closely.

Its also obvious from the many pictures i have seen, that there are many different stripes, not all accurate, and not all put on very well either.

oh, i do blab on so...

As long as it looks right to the eye you will be fine.

You think the assembly line workers gave a shit if the stripes were within a few mm or so of the drawings?

Yours will probably end up better than the factory did it.

that's true - a 1971 Wednesday, just-after-lunch stripe session compared to a Friday late night shift-before a long weekend stripe session...mmm. Have a look at the brochure drawings for the 71 - the stripes on the RT are about a full inch higher than any other i have seen! Almost up to the top of the door and fender.
