Date codes on various body parts

Does anyone know how to decode the various number and letter codes on different body parts. For example, under my sill plates, on the rocker panels, the code "089M511" is stamped on both sides. I spoke with a very knowledgable Mopar guy, who told me it indicates a date of November 1969. He did not tell me how he got the information, but he was right, my 70 Challenger was built Nov 11th 1969. I have seen codes like this on deck lids, hoods, fenders, etc. Is this info in one of Galens books? Who has it?

Not sure how that code you have on your rocker panel could mean November 1969? It does not seem to conform with any logical dating system.
You sure he was not just bullshitting you because he saw the build date on the tag? :lol:

Many of my body panels have the actual date stamped into them. I think I have July or August 69 (can't remember offhand which) stamped into my rear valance panel behind the licence plate. My car has a scheduled date of Sept 17th and was built in October '69.

I doubt it. That would be the scheduled production date I would guess? If so it was probably built in early December. Most of the parts would have been stamped out and dated a month or so before the car was assembled.

Like Dave, the only dated coded body part I know of (so far) is the rear valance. You can see an example of that & others at this link;
