Opinion needed on repaint of my 70 A66 4 speed

Postby charliek » 18 Sep 2008 3:30

I am in the process of having my car repainted. The original color is Top Banana which like. However, I really love Plum Krazy. It is a correct matching numbers car so I was wondering if the value would be greatly reduced. I tend to be an originality nut- but- I think the car would look awesome in purple. What do you guys think?? Thanks

i would leave it top banana because thats what the car came with and my car is top banana and it looks just as good as any plum crazy car.
:s023:

but because your car is set up as a numbers matching car it is more reason to leave the car the way it came with its original colour.you never know but if one day you do re sell your car there are always more buyers looking to buy cars with its original colour.

also you always get that question from others at cruise ins or car shows "is that an original plum crazy car"?

just my opinion but if you reallly like to change the colour thats ok too as it is your car to choose what you like but my vote would be to paint it the original top banana colour.good luck and let us know what you will decide.
i threw in a picture of my top banana car to help you decide.

This is my thought: If you are attending to sell the car in a condition that match up the numbers of your vin tag, and care less of making your own dreams come true, then the value could probably be on the top with that banana yellow (that is truely a awesome colour) But i am sure that is depending on more things then just the colour, such as engine/ trans and rear... If it is just a 318 car for example i don't think it matter's as much as if it is a T/A or Hemi... (Then even me would keep it after the vin tag) :p:

But on another hand, If you are planning to keep the car for yourself and if the purple crazy (gorgeous colour also) is your favourite then quit bother in the value of the car and what the next guy would think when you/If you maybe are planning of selling later.. If you do want to make something that does not make the stock nuts happy, then do that! The car is your's & you only live ones, right? Just don't mess with the beautiful body lines or destroy any steel.... :D Wheels & Tires and engines is always possible to get back to stock if you want so... And even a paintjob for that boring guy that eventually complains and wants a banana yellow instead of purple crazy when he is putting the car in a museum in 40 years...

Do whatever your own heart & mind tells you! 8) Neither the purple or yellow can be wrong!

I do know that there are special guys that care about stock look more then others, but not everybody... A good looking car that make you wanna drool IS a nice car, no matter what the vin says... :D

Have a nice day guys!

Given the rarity of your car. I would leave it the original colour.

Your Top Banana car looks great. I decided to keep it original. In stripping the paint it can be seen that the car was in the past painted yellow twice, purple twice and blue once. It will now be stripped bare and put back to original Thanks for your opinions.
