Trunk lid for a 71

Postby Chris » 24 Aug 2008 17:03

Hey guys, Im looking for a new trunklid and on ebay they range from 200 to 600. I dont know what the difference would be in quality. If anybody has any advice on who to deal with and which are better quality I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hi, If I were you I would be on the look out for a good original one from a dry state. No rust and s*#t paint. I think you should be able to pick one up for maybe a few hundred. So when you have it painted you know it will fit. Try and stay away from repo.

If you are a bit worried about it you can get it chemicly cleaned or get just the frame sand blasted, but not the skin because it might put it out of shape.

When I was at the Mopar Nats in 2007 I asked AMD,(Auto Metal Direct), that very same question as 340 brought up. Was the re-popped sheet metal as thick as the metal in OEM 1970-74 Chrysler cars? He and at least 2 other reps said No way! I would try and find used. A great place to find most of all the 'used' MoPar sheetmetal dealers as well as the complete aftermarket spectrum, and private persons selling their parts can be found in this handy publication that fortunately ships worldwide. www.moparcollectorsguide.com I have used them successfully in the past

Thanks Eddie, I ended up ordering one from AMD and I should get it this week, from what I understood theirs was the highest quality for about 500 plus shipping. I'll let you know by next weekend what its like.

Yes, I have bought a lot of nice parts that were used but in restorable condition thru that magazine. It saves on gas searching the swap meets ect, I have also sold many parts on it. The advertising is FREE for subscribers. Sell 1 used MoPar part and it pays for the cost of the subscription! The cheap 'Hebe' in me cant be kept down! Let us know how that trunk lid turns out man.
