Any tips on door alignment?

Postby blackmagic73 » 05 Jul 2008 19:18

Trying to get the doors back on today. Everything lines up nice, but try as I might, both doors keep sagging about 3/8" or so. I had a buddy helping me earlier and now I've got a jack under one end to hold it in place while I loosen and tighten the bolts, but they still insist on sagging. Anyone have any tips or tricks they've learned to get everything sitting pretty?

You sure the hinge pins are ok? You should not be able to move the door up or down at all.

If they are OK it is a matter of adjustment. If you tighten the bolts the door cannot drop from where it is unless the hinge pins are worn.

You need the font fenders off to do it right too. get the doors lined up with the body. Then install the fenders and line them up with the doors.

The doors and fenders are off. Took them off to facilitate refurbishing the chassis (which reminds me I keep meaning to post some pictures of the process and I keep forgetting to upload them). Now it's time for them to go back on.
I did end up getting one of them lined up by jacking it above where it needed to be, tightening it all down and letting it settle into place. They don't move up and down freely, the weight of the door just causes it to settle after everything is tightened. But from what you're saying, it sounds like the cause of that is my hinge pins are shot. I shall have to investigate that further...

It has to be the pins or the holes the pins go through. The adjustment bolts cannot move once tightened.
