Shaker Hood ID

Postby DanaProsky » 04 Jun 2008 21:09

Is there a way to determine if a Shaker hood is original to the car or is it a replacement Shaker hood from Goodmark, Year One, Etc. I bought a 1971 Challenger R/T with a Shaker and am trying to see if it factory installed or aftermarket. Thanks guys.

first off, check to see if your fender tag has the N96 code on it,if it does then your car came with it and it is most likely a real mopar set up.
if no N96 code let me and eddie know and i will try and help to show you real mopar parts off my shaker.

by the way,i love your colour---top banana yellow  mine is the same

Can you get the numbers under the bubble top? Is there a Chrysler symbol under there as well? I'm not sure about the 71's but on the 70's re-pops they have discernable differences that can be spotted by someone who knows what they are looking for.

My fender tag shows N96, but I am not sure the tag is real. The hood is steel, but the shaker bubble looks almost too new to be an original. By the way the color is GY3, Citron Yella. Thanks !! I just got this car and I will be asking many questions in the near future. The car does not have a build sheet, so I am up a creek in that regard. I hope you gentlemen dont mind helping me with the car, and if I become a pain in the butt, let me know. Thanks in advance.

I, and I'm sure Danny, will do anything we can to help you Dana. I might add, that although I dont know him personally, there is a member here who has great knowledge regarding Challenger fender tags, and Challengers in general,(Mr. Barry Washington. Alaskan T/A). He may be able to discern if the Fender Tag is original and Dave R. is also quite knowledgeable about this subject as well. I on the other hand couldnt tell an original fender tag from a Cracker Jack trinket

Here is a photo of the car, by the way I spoke to the previous owner and he confirmed that the shaker hood is a steel hood aftermarket setup.

Thanks Eddie! The way I figure it, the cars worth about $3000.00 more with the factory Shaker, and it costs almost the same to add an aftermarket steel Shaker setup, so its a wash.
