Acrylic enamel or basecoat clearcoat?

Postby Chris » 30 Mar 2008 23:29

I wonder if i can get you guys to give me your opinion on what type of paint i should use and the pros and cons of each. I have to go get prices this week would like to pretend i know what i'm talking about. Also if i go with basecoat clearcoat do they use that system everywhere such as door jams, floors, trunk, under the hood etc.? thanks, Chris.

I used enamel on the interior parts of the body and the underside of the car. Much cheaper than base coat/clear coat and on parts that dont show it is less finish work. The parts of the body that show I went with the base coat/Clear coat.

Just my 2 cents worth.
Which in American dollars is not worth much anymore.

I agree with Bob, I have BC/CC on the exterior surfaces abd SS AE on the engine bay. If you pick a High Impact color you may want to stick with one or the other. There will be some variation to the color by using different paint systems.

Jack, for some reason it takes me twice as long to read your posts. what would you do in that case, all bc/cc or ae or just dont paint them side by side like in the engine bay, but use the ae in the trunk and inside floors.

Depends on the look you are going after. Original go AE everywhere. For a show car shine BC/CC and do it everywhere. Not to say you can't do AE and have it look sweet, but it can't be Wetsanded if it's mettalic. Or you could CC the AE and cut and buff. Not sure how much you would save that way.
