front bumper isolators

Hello All,

Looking for some advice as to the color to paint the front bumper isolators on my 72 Challenger. Front bumper is chrome.

Are they the little rubber end pieces that cover the leading edge? 1" by 2" or 40mm by 20mm? Mine are black natural rubber but Ive seen them painted body colour and I think it looks 'tacky' that way.

1972 Challengers do not have them. Those started in 1973. Has something to do with the 5 mile per hour bumper rating. The correct color for them starting in 73, according to my old man, is that they were black on rallye cars and gray for non rallye cars similar to color that surrounds the rear tail lights. (Now thats about 5 beers in so, take that last fact for what it's worth). I have a pair of gray that came of a non rallye car.

Just an afterthought, if you as speaking of the rubber part nest to the outside headlight, you are correct, they are natural rubber black. Sorry.

aah, those.. I painted mine that was in bad shape mate black with aerosol spray. I think that choise of colour is invidual. But Nanas pic's with silver painted looks good. I think painted in same colour as the car should also work :thumbsup:

What does "tacky" mean? Is that bad in some way Ed? :roll:

"Tacky" is a bald 51 year old man wearing AC/DC T-Shirt to his friends wedding when everyone else was in Tuxedos! :mrgreen:

In my eyes they look good in silver :thumbsup:

It was a while ago since i painted them, but i think mine was light grey under the black...

haha! I love AC/DC they are my absolute favourite band! I think i understand, but i think it would look better on a non black car with that colour of the car, then black... :s006:

You can come to my wedding in that if you don't have a tuxedo, I don't mind! :thumbsup:

How about every Challengers with these "front bumper isolators" where painted black over the grey "plastic or rubber" Maybe no difference between rallye or non rallye(?) some have grey just because the black paint has dissapered?

Is this thought possible?

Sorry, I was busy for a couple of days. Here they are...they isolate the bumpers from the frame of the car...photo to follow...

D'oh, colors for everything but the bumper brackets. I've seen restored cars and they're just black. Looks fine. What color's the car?

Eventually, it will be B5 blue, with a black vinyl top. I have a product by POR-15 called metal mask that I did my upper and lower control arms and I liked the finish, so I was considering it for these. It basically looks like bare metal. But, I think you are right, black may be the way to go. Think a satin finish? Thanks,

Doh! The bumper brackets! You had us all confused there! :lol:

Not sure if they were actually painted or not when new but most people paint them black.

Satin sounds like it would look nice with blue/vinyl top. But, since you aren't really gonna see them, that metal mask is probably a good idea if it keeps the rust off. Guess it depends on the conditions you want to drive it in.
