How much damage can occur under the vinyl which you obviously cant see until its stripped off?

What can one do to repair ptential damage to a roof.. metal patchwork maybe??

Vinyl tops really are not a good thing. If you are asking now RedRaven, then you're probably at that stage. If I can provide any help please ask.

They didn't paint under the vinyl top. Just undercoat.

If you are lucky it will be pretty solid with a bit of surface rust and a few pin holes.

If you are not lucky it will need a lot of welding. Worst case a new roof. But if it was that bad you would feel or even see all the rust bubbling up under the vinyl.
