I recently purchased both quarter and trunk lid trim pieces. The new items are rounded and lack the detail shown in the picture. Since these were replaced back in the 80's I don't know which is correct.

It's not a big deal, I could live with it but one of the new quarter trim has tooling dents and I plan to send it back. Any info or pictures would be appreciated.

The 70 chrome trim differ from the 71-74 chrome trim. I think it is the 70 version on the pic. (...but I am not sure!!!)

The 1970 versions are smooth and rounded. The '71-on versions have a ridge that runs through the length down the center. Like the ones in your picture.

So the replacements you bought will be correct.

These 71 versions were the only ones you could get for a very long time which is why I have them on my car.

I bought the new pieces from Year One. They come with all of the clips and hardware too. The originals in the picture were from the local Dodge dealer. How difficult would it be to pound out the small dents and polish the scratch's?

They have a thin bright plating over them which will come off with polishing. The underlining material does not polish as well.

Any ideas as to where I can locate the panel between the trunk and rear window on a 70 Chally?
This area is apparently rotted (the idiot that had the ride prior to me tried to Bondo it Yikes!!!)
I'm also in search of the inner package tray and will most likely need to replace the quarters as well.

Any ideas folks?

It is a very common part so it should be no problem to get one.

That's actually a pretty good price $160 if it fits well. I have been leaning more and more towards YO latley because of their return policy if it doesn't . If you do order one cv70chall please post the results.

Between you and me Chris we know why it is a common part. Lower window sheetmetal rust. Mines been repaired twice already.

Just thinking too much again but the reason for the problem is there is no drainage from the window seat channel. I sometimes use compressed air to get rid of the water after washing and it is amazing how much sits there. I have also sprayed WD-40 to displace it but it makes quite amess on the finish. Any other ideas?

As far as the rear deck lid and quarter mldgs, I had bought a set from Year One for my 71 Challenger R/T, and one of the reasons there is a difference between 70s and 71s is that the 71 R/T mldgs are painted flat black half way and they use the crease line as the break point between the shiny finish and the painted finish. I am not sure how the 72s through 74s are. Evidently the 70 Challenger mldgs are not painted regardless of model, thus the use of a rounded mldg. Hope that helps.

A long time ago (after welding) I filled the space around the glass completely with sealer before pushing the trim on.

It kept the water out perfectly. But when I came to take the glass out for this re-build I had one hell of a job getting it all out again.

Were you able to save the trim around the window Dave?

ANY IDEAS WHERE A GUY COULD BUY THE TRIM PIECES THAT GO AROUND THE REAR GLASS OF A 73 CHALLY....I THINK THERE STAINLESS?...OR ALUMINUM???.....

Yes there are three pieces and factory material in 70 was stainless. Same with the front windscreen. I wouldn't go with an aluminum replacement, too easy to dent.

Maybe look at eBay or YO. You will pay though.

After several delays (and the unexpected decision to replace the rear package tray with one from a donor vehicle) ,we replaced the filler panel and it seemed to fit quite well.
I would give the YO guys some credit here, as the part fit as expected.
We're now on to welding 2 new rear full quarters in place!
