Need help locating sail panels (exterior)

Postby 71challengeme » 14 Feb 2006 20:43

My newly acquired 71 Challenger needs new exterior sail panels. The section of sheet metal between the rear vent window and the back glass.

This is the basically the only rust damage on the car and I'd prefer to replace the panel than cut around the cancer and patch it in. I may be forced to do that if i can't find replacements.
Thanks for any help

You will be very lucky to find a good one on a car worth cutting up for it. Even on very good cars there is usually a bit of rust in that area.

It is where the quarter panel is welded to the roof section. Would a new quarter panel cover most of the area you need? Then you would have something solid to start welding from.

Maybe a full quarter panel is something to consider? That way, you will get the lower part of the B-pillar.
(...or have I got it all wrong?)

Don't need the whole quarter panel

That might do the trick, but it's really overkill. I was hoping that they made a sail panel that would just replace the seam; "about 3 inches in both directions of the seam would be great"; I may have to fabricate one.
Tack,

Do you plan to add a vinyl top or not?
The repair should be less crucial if you intend to cover it with a vinyl top.

Hey Challengeme. I just took a look at your website. I love what you have done with that old garage. I think I have seen your web site before?

I would love an old petrol station like that. :D
