Undercoating

Hi everyone.

I'm in the process of restoring my 70 SE and have a question about rubberized undercoatings on the Challengers. I am hoping some of you have applied undercoating/sound-proofing during your restorations and can tell me what the best product on the market is that will duplicate the appearance of the rubberized undercoating that came on the Challengers.

I've heard that spraying from a can won't give the same appearance but have not tried it myself. What products are out there?

Any experiences would be helpful. Thanks!! :mrgreen:

Are looking for factory original? i used Rhino linning made for truck beds and had it color matched to the paint, it came out real nice and is a great isulator for sound and also did the inside of the trunk, .

I am looking to do the same with mine . Do you have any pictures? and advice. I am doing a full restorationand I think thats the way to go as i want the look of body color under the car but I also want the protection from road damage and rust.

Just to remind you guys. Most Mopars came from the factory without any paint or undersealing on the underside. Chrysler did not waste money on painting areas you cannot see from the kerb.

All you normally got was grey undercoat paint and a bit of overspray from the sides.

Mine came with the factory undercoating and I would say it has saved me from mucho rusto. The new fender I had replaced years ago has not faired nearly as well even with standard primer and paint process.

I would stay with the factory undercoating if it is sound. I know mine is after 160,000+ miles. The thought of trying to scrape the old off is mine boggling. :s006: May be touchup the bad areas and leave the rest alone.

I agree. I admire these cars with the factory finish under them but it is not very practical. I don't know if mine came with underseal of not but there is no way i would not use something. Anything in fact to protect it.

here is a shot if the wheel well in front , painted the frame upto the acess hole and then undercoated the rest, also a shot of the trunk area inside the trunk and upto the back of the rear seat. still a little messy from the body shop :roll:

Did you need to do an special prep work for the Rhino Liner?

NOPE sprayed right over the primer , when sprayed in the bed of trucks we used to just scuff the paint in the areas to be sprayed.
