Vinyl Top for 70 RT SE

Postby rtse70 » 19 Aug 2005 19:25

I have a Challenger 70 RT SE with what I believe is the original vinyl top. It needs to be replaced. I hate to do it . The seams on the roof are two straight ones that go back to the window which I've read were more correct for 72-74 challengers. The 70's had a top with seams that ran back and then down the side panels near the rear window. Some books have said the seams that go to the window were installed on a few 70's. Does anyone now if that's correct.

In theory the SE got the "wide seam" top that had the seams running down either side of the rear window. The rest got the "narrow seam" where the seam stops at the glass.

In practice they fitted whatever top was to hand as the car came down the line.

Fit whichever you think looks better. I like the wide seam verson the best.

I agree with Dave. Mine has got the narrow seam top, but I'm changing it to the wide seam as soon as I can find someone to do it!
By the way RTSE70, where is nwi? I've been trying to think of somewhere with those initials!
