K-Members compared

Postby 72 Challenger (Hans) » 16 Nov 2003 15:58

While I was reading the "383/426 differense" topic something came up my mind about k-members. Had to look at some pics of mine and started wondering if all k-members have notches on top / in front to make room for the lower radiator hose? And if they all had it on the same side as there were radiators with the lower hose on different sides. Maybe on the driver & passenger side? Any ideas on this...

Can't see if it's on the passenger side due the fuel filter. See the notch at the driverside?

Is it for the bottom hose? Or is it for the oil filter on the big blocks?

I had a look on mine. Tricky taking photos in the dark so it is a bit fuzzy.

Neither the oil filter OR the bottom hose go anywhere near that notch in the k-frame on my car.

However my radiator is a non-stock item so the hose is higher. So most likely you are right and it is for the hose.

I am not well up on small blocks. Did the small blocks fitted into Challengers have the bottom hose on the other side? I know you can get small block water pumps with intakes on different sides depending on year.

The k-frame to the left is for slant six engines and the frame on the right is for LA and B/RB engines. As you can see by the pic´s, both frames have a notch on the right side (left side of car). Will these pic´s help you out, Hans?

So all the k-members have the notch on the driverside only. I should say it's for the lower hose but you had the lower hose on both sides with SB & BB engines so weird they only notched it on the driverside. But anyway, it answers my question.
