Hood emblem removal

OK, I've got a "rallye" hood with "340 Four Barrel" emblems on the sides of the scoops. I've actually got a 360 in the car (1974) and I've got some new "360 Four Barrel" emblems to replace the 340's. So, how do I accomplish this? From what I can tell, little metal "retainer clips" are used to hold the emblems, just pushed over the studs. But, how do you remove the retainers from the other emblems' studs so I can take 'em off the hood? They seem to be somewhat accessible from underneath. Anyone who's done this got any helpful tips? Any special tools required?
Thanks.
Doug

I assume your not refinishing your hood. So, care has to be taken not to damage the finish. The originals were nylon type bushings that slid on the studs of the emblems. Some people used metal barrel clips in their place. The best way I've found in either case is to mask tight around the emblem with two layers of tape. slide a thin blade flat screw driver in behind the emblem and very gently work the emblem upward. there are three pegs( just as your new emblems). this is a very pain staking process. Don't get in a hurry and don't pry too hard. The metal type are the worst and the pop out pretty hard. let me know if you have any major problems, for it is very difficult to explain how to do it in writing.
MOPAR or no car!

MM - my new emblems have only 2 pegs, and I think my other ones have only 2 as well, but I'll check on it. Thanks for the input - I'll give it a try!

I remember, when I went from a "440-Magnum" badge to 440-SIXPACK version, I had to drill a new hole as one of the original holes was in the wrong place. The badge covers the unused hole OK though.
They do indeed just lever off and the masking tape is a very good idea.
My new badge came with new plastic retainers that just pushed into the holes.

You may be right, there might only be two pegs.

Well, I mounted the aftermarket go-wing last night...looks good. I also checked the hood badges, and there are only 2 pegs, and only one retaining ring on the one side I checked. But it's on TIGHT! It also looks almost like a stamped square brass nut. I'll have to be very careful because I didn't get any new ones with the 360 badges. Patience, patience. Thanks guys.

DF - actually, they were not new. I got 'em on Ebaymotors from a lady who's husband had been restoring a car when he passed away and she was selling all his car stuff. I paid about $65 or so including shipping, but I live in Utah so shipping wasn't much. There's a guy on there that has "new in the wrapper" ones occaisionally and he wants $95 US for his. Good luck.

Look at
http://www.jimsautoparts.com/moldings.htm on the bottom of the page it lists part number 3691468 for the 360 four barrel. I don't know if they ship international, but we can hope!

Thanks MM. I may need some, though it may be a while before I know for sure. This is a very slow process for me...timewise I'm pretty booked and can only get an hour or so every now and then to work on the car. I do need the little rubber rollers on the trunk springs, though, as I just got those re-installed and the springs I got didn't have the rollers. Or can I get them at any local parts store?
Kind of a pain re-building a former race car where everything was removed for weight! Seems like I find something new every time I work on the car!
