My '71 has a plain trunk lid with nothing marked on it. Is this as it should be. While looking at cars for sale I discovered what appears to be a very clean looking '71 and it has the Dodge emblem on the trunk lid. Do all other '71 cars have this too? there does not seem to be any evidence of repairs or removal of emblems from mine so i'm curious.

Roger, the yellow 1971 is the only year that features "Dodge" on the trunk lid as shown. I would dispute the placement of this emblem, as I believe it to be just a little further up (but not much) and a little not as far to the right. When I sold mine in 1995 it was without this emblem as it fell off during a wash job about 1992. I bought a NOS one at a Mopar event and was going to place it when I got the restoration complete. Around Christmas this year I found the missing emblem that fell off about 10 years ago. All I need to do is to figure out what kind of adhesive to use to get it back on. I know right where it goes, as there is a very tiny mark left from the previous placement. I just looked at pictures from the day I bought my car back in 1979, and it matches my memory. The placement of the emblem is about halfway in the middle of that flat spot on the rear. The "DODGE" listed above actually may be right in it's proximity to the right, and could be OK with how close it is to the bottom. Yet it should be right in the middle of that flat spot in the back ridge, closer to the fold than the bottom. I paid $15 for the NOS at a swap meet in Columbus February '02

Very curious that the only car to come with it was the yellow one (is this what you're saying)? Why was this I wonder? My car has a similar emblem in the grill on the driver's side, yet with nothing on the rear, many people ask me "what kinda car is that mate"?
I do like the look of the emblem and will probably put one on, when I finally get to that stage of my restoration (if ever). My car also has no pentastar logo on the front fender either, but I believe that this fender (guard) was replaced at some stage, as it's the only area that lacks the factory (or early life) rust-proofing underneath (looks like tar and quite thick). Does your car have any other emblems on it (with the exception of the 3 Challenger emblems)?

Roger, I looked at what I wrote and noticed that I've mangled the King's English again. I did not mean only YELLOW Challengers had the "Dodge" on the rear (matching the hood), rather that only 1971 had them. The Chysler Pentastar was on the passenger side fender in back of the front wheel. I noticed Roel's whose car came from South Africa also seemed to be missing that small emblem. Roel's car got a little strange because the Challenger was at the bottom of the front fender. No other emblems on it, with the exception of the triangle thing in the hood. That wasn't on power buldge (R/T style) rather only the flat and Shaker hoods.
My car has the J55 "Undercoating and Hood Pad" option. However, when you put on the Shaker Hood the Hood Pad becomes a moot point. You'll seldom see a restored car put that thick tar stuff back on (at least from what I remember seeing). Also, my car was rust proofed by Ziebart. I believe that is why my car existed in 1979, as compared to the roughly other 5 or 6 cars that I saw between 1975 and 1979 on my search for a Challenger convertible. Most of the others were too far gone to bring back. I'll be on the lookout for another "Dodge" for you. Maybe I can find one and get it to you. I think the reason you don't see them is two fold: They fell off just like mine and sometimes people don't sweat the details. Look at me. Tonight when I was at the gas station I pulled mine out of the glove box while I was filling up to match it where I thought it should go. Just like previous post. But I need to get it on there before I show it!

Thanks for clarifying the point Jeff. I thought that was what you meant, but wasn't quite sure. It makes sense to have the badge on the rear, given that the '70 model has the name incorporated in the reverse light lens and the '72-'74 have it on the rear panel. This was something I always wondered about with my car.
I would really appreciate it if you could find one for me - it's the little details that make a car what it is, in my humble opinion, and I want to restore mine as best as I can (finances permitting) without being rediculous.
Cheers mate!

My brother, from whom I bought the car from, and myself like the blacked-out, or no emblems look, just to keep people thinking, "What on God's green earth" kind of car is that? Its so much funner when the *ord and *hevy junkies don't know what their losing to in a race!

Don't worry about the exact placement of any stick-on badges. The production line workers did not worry about exact placement of the badges so there is a lot of variability.

OK, I'm glad I haven't put mine on yet. It's lower than I remembered it, but the side measurement is right where I thought it should be. Thanks for posting this. Tony and I had talked about how to reapply, but like other small projects I haven't gotten around to actually do it.
Anyone know where I can get one?

I have only seen the grille one for sale. Which looks the same I think and could maybe be modified to fit?

From time to time you see them for sale at ebay.
1971 Demons, 1973 Coronet four-door sedans and 1974 Coronet station wagons also used this emblem.
