I've read different opinions on the vinyl flat black hood treatment. One is that it was standard and the other is that it was an option on the R/T. I don't trust Herd's book on this since he has so many other bits of misinformation to wade through. Is there a definitive answer for the 1970 model year?

The flat black hood treatment V21 had to be ticked off on the order form. It was indeed optional but only on the R/T and 340 powered cars.

So that would be a separate code on the fender tag rather than being included in a package code, I take it. Thank you!

Yep. The code has to be on the fender tag except maybe with the 340 performance package as it was part of that.

was the treatment available on the 71-74 challengers as well? same option code?

also, was the stripe that runs under the body line, the length of the car, available on the 71-74 models? what was option code?
