The Dodge Challenger Message Board

What kind of gas cap belongs on the 1973 Challenger? There are few good photos on the Web and our restoration guide does not discuss it. We have a locking chrome cap now, but this is obviously not the original.

There is some disagreement over this but this is what I think after lots of discussion on the subject when this message board was somewhere else.

A body coloured flush fitting cap was used for 1970-4. The flip-open chrome type was optional (standard on some models) 70/71 only. Replacement gas caps were flush fitting chrome plated so that the owners did not have to get them painted body colour.

As far as I can find in some books the 72/73/74 originally had the body coloured flush fitting caps. My 72 Ralley had one to but the previous owner installed a chrome flip-open. This looks better but it's not original.
