I did the engine compartment myself this winter and started with a good paint remover. That didn't went so well so I had to figure out something else. But if you do use paint remover make sure you really do a good cleaning job after all the paint is removed! I stopped with the remover and used a machine with a grinding disc on it (don't know how it's called in english but you also have cutting discs for it etc. so you can cut through the exhaust for example) When using that you'll find out how fine the grinding disc should be for your application. That went very well a lot faster then every other thing. The only bad thing about it it that the whole garage is full of thick layer of dust after your done. And finally when done with the machine use a very fine grinding paper and do the whole car by hand. Although you won't see grinding 'traces' you will see them when you go and paint it.

But don't expect it to be a easy job!

Larry, The proper way is to have it professionally sand/media blasted. To do it right you should remove all the glass and trim. My car was a rolling shell when I had it blasted, however they were also doing a 57 Chev. It had full glass, trim interior etc. This place is in Cambridge Ontario if your interested.

Hi Larry you can use a 3m carbon disc it is 4" round 3/4 " wide. looks like a round black cheese full of holes. strips the paint off and do's not damage the surface again dusty but if you can't get it shot blasted next best thing
