I am not sure whether it is called a "valence" or a gravel pan, but it is the body part under the trunk, lowest to the ground. Anyway, my rear "valance" is smooth the entire width, and has no cutouts for exhuast. Does this mean the car is supposed to have the T/A style ehuast? Or was their another place for the pipes on a Dual exhuast car?

I am trying to remember now.

I think if you had dual exhaust you got the cut-outs but I am not 100% sure. Single exhaust you got the rear valance you describe. Only the T/A had the side exhaust.

I have to ask...
You have checked that the dash pad and fender tag are original to the car? It just seem that there are so many things not on your car that should be for a 340. What model year is it? If 1970 it would be same spec as a R/T.

Do the numbers on the bodywork match the dash VIN? Do dates on the parts match the build date of the car? There is a thread on this message board that shows you where to find the numbers on the body.

It is worth checking out.

				Your fender tag should have
N41
N42
This means you should have the rear valance w/
cut-outs
N44
This was used on T/A models (side exhaust)
Can you post your fender tag?
If none of these are on your fender tag you had
single exhaust.I don`t think any 340 car came
with single exhaust

I have them posted on the VIN/options board check help with fender tags April 13 by me.
I have the N41, N42, and my car has a single exhuast valance, so does this mean my that somebody took a lot of plates off of another car and put them on mine? Becuase the Fender tag, VIN, and door panel all match. Does this sound right? Becuase most of the cars origanal Burnt Orange metallic remains in some places, and that matches the codes, so somebody must have done a good clone job, and then destroyed the car or something. Becuase I dont have the 340/ 4-speed listed on my car, but I have most everything else, less the valance I discussed.

The previous owner had placed T/A style pipes on it. I just dont see someone going through all the trouble of matching the plates, and the color, and some of the options.

It does sound from what you say that the previous owner did all that so don't worry.

However just to be sure you should check the stamped markings in the body match your VIN.

Look in the VIN/options section for a thread called "Where to find the VIN on the vehicle body" and put your mind (and ours!) to rest.

If your fender tag has only N41, you have dual exhaust out the rear with a plain rear valence and turn-down exhaust tips. All 440 6-packs and Hemis originally sold in California came like this due to noise restrictions in that state. If the fender tag has N41 and N42, you have the same dual exhaust with the cutout valence and chrome exhaust tips. N44 on TA's is also a dual exhaust system and Mike, you're correct - 340's came standard with 2 1/4" dual exhaust with no X, H or crossover pipe.
