Rear Bumpers

I have a 72 challenger and i think I have 73 bumpers,Uhhh with 72 mounting brackets.my problem is the rear.and my question is:was there a small change in mounting brackets from the 72 to 73,Was ready to put it on but just seems to far from car,I also don't have the rubber spacer under the bumper but I don't think it will take up this space.any info will help.....thanks.....Marcus

I believe the mounting brackets were different for the '73 and'74 cars. Also those cars used a heavy guage steel reinforcement between the brackets and the bumper bars (the chrome part) to stiffen them up a bit. The shape of the bumpers were basically the same for all years; variations between years involved only the bolt hole and jacking slot locations. It you have the reinforcement I would suggest removing it and see if it helps. Otherwise I'm guessing it's the brackets. If I've got any of this wrong someone please chime in.

You asked this one before on here didn't you Marcus? Didn't we decide your brakets were not right or something? Have a look through the old posts to see if you can find it. was there not a filler piece that ran between the body and bumper on the 73-74?
