440 MOTOR MOUNT

Hi All,

Looking for some advice. I have a 71 440 Ebody that I am trying to level the motor. The right side needs to be raised 1/2 inch make the engine level, and to keep my left header from touching the torsion bar. Is there an over sized motor mount out there? Or should I use a torque strap? Thanks!!

Sounds like it is not sat on the mounts correctly. Raise the engine off the mounts and place it back down so it centers on the mounts.

You can place a U-shaped shim between the mount and the K-member, ...1/2 inch might be too much for this simple mod......

Do you have the right kind of motor mount and/or is everything else correct? If you have newly bought the car and if the car has had many owners then it is an advantage to have an open mind. You never know what changes the previous owners have made.

It can easily be twisted a half inch up one side of the other. Trust me. Just lift it, twist it, and put it back down.

thanks all for the good advice. After temporarily leveling the motor with a floor jack, my header is still touching the torsion bar.It appears that after I shim the right mount,(if i go that route) my motor will be level but my torsion bar issue will still be there. It looks like now I need to shift the motor from left to right to get it off the torsion bar. If I do that, my right header will hit the inner apron. I have stock motor mounts and brackets and headman headers. Now Im wondering if something is tweaked or... it's my cheap headers! This is an original 340 car. I tried to identify what K frame is in the car with no success. Are there any headers out there that are guaranteed to fit?? I am not the original owner and have no clue what was done to this car in the last 40 years. HELPPPPPPP!!!!

What brand headers? TTI are very Mopar-centric.
Made by Mopar guys for Mopar guys

TTI are expensive though.

Hedman headers are cheap and usually need "adjusting" with a hammer to fit.

Even the expensive brands often need a little ding in at least one place.

With this engine being a transplant it might be an idea just to make sure it has the correct E-body 440 engine mounts. The K-frame in a E-body is the same for all V8s (except hemi).

Have to agree with you there. Of everything I've read about TTI on different forums, they fit without using a Ford tool (BFH). I actually have an old set of Hedman's that I need to install on my Ramcharger. Another company that I've heard good things about Mopar-wise is Doug Thorley Headers. I had a set on one of my 4x4 trucks 20 or so years ago and they fit perfect back then. Still hear good things about them nowadays on the 'net.

I used Doug's headers myself because they were cheaper than teh TTIs at the time. I don't think there is much difference in price now and they still needed a little hammer work to clear the top of the pitman arm.

Mind these were 2" primary pipes so were fat buggers. :D
