quote from Wikapedia

"The beam type torque wrench was developed in the late 1920s/early 1930s by Walter Percy Chrysler for the Chrysler Corporation and a company known as Micromatic Hone. Paul Allen Sturtevant"”a sales representative for the Cedar Rapids Engineering Company at that time"”was licensed by Chrysler to manufacture his invention. Sturtevant patented the torque wrench in 1938 and became the first individual to sell torque wrenches."

That's interesting. Walter was origonally from Olwein Iowa.(spelling?) There is a small park dedicated in his honor. I've never stopped there but I've driven past it many times. It's only about an hour drive from me.

Yes, all true. I special ordered a new 1/2 drive 20-150 lb. Beam style Sturtevant/Richmont Torque wrench last year, but the company rep told me it would take at least 6-12 months to get one. I ordered a new Snap-On TECFR250  Both tools are over 450.00 apiece!! I wont use a clicker type wrench,,never had a good one!

Holy hell $450 !! Precision measuring equipment is so pricey. I bought a Sidchrome* TW 30-150 ft lbs, that uses a UK designed Norbar system - bought it "used" at $100 but the guy said he had never used it from new. So it was a bargain. But don't know how it works inside (magic), but it does have the pronounced click/snap signal. I just found out that Norbar Australia want $100 to test and calibrate it. They won't just test it for me as i believe its still in spec......Bugger that...i will test it myself using a weights and formula method i found out about.

*When Sidchrome was actually made in Australia
