Spot on with Two Lane Blactop, especially GTO played by Warren Oates. I reckon the cheesier the better with car films, what about gems like Carquake with David Carradine, or Hot Rod, The California Kid, the lists on the web are endless, check 'em out :)

Gone in 60 seconds (the '74 version of course)
longest car chase scene in history: 40 minutes!

Check this high adrenaline summary of Mad Max out. (it helps if you like Killing Joke  )

That original of Gone in 60 Seconds is superb, except for the scene where a Challenger on the back of a tow truck gets trashed in the chase

i never knew, there are 2 versions of gone in 60 sec !! i need to watch it now :) I ve seen pages with cars films titles but i didnt know which one is worth watching, im from 1987 and most of that films are from 70s :)

I guess my answer would be watch as many as you can, cos its the only way to see what you like :) But I still think the earlier the better, and like most modern popular cinema, everything is aimed at stunts and excess. All car guys just wanna see an honest chase scene that was produced by a talented stunt driver, not a cgi machine :!: The Driver with Ryan O'Neal is a good 'un

I also read somwhere that they had to mod the front end of the Mustang because it kept on breaking......The Charger was as tough as, apparently the suspension lasted the whole movie and it was fairly well stock!!

Was it Duel? :s022:

Also worth a punt (just), are the Dukes of Hazzard Movie, The Car (not a traditional car movie, but I think it was a Chrysler?), Catch Me If You Can (had a Barracuda), all the Phantasm films (also had a Cuda), Black Cadillac, and the one from the '80's with the slightly gay- looking heart- throb actor street- racing a red Mach1 Mustang. What was that called?

Another Steven: Spielberg

With Dennis 'Sam McCloud' Weaver

That truck was btw 4 sale last year.

The previous owner made a video of it, even now intimidating at moments..

Gumball Rally is still very cool, so is Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, although not strictly just a road movie.

what about modern movies with muscle cars ?

I can't think of anything except the Fast and the Furious franchise etc, but I don't count them as "real" car movies, all NOS buttons and ridiculous boost effects and cars whose physics appear to have been lifted straight out of a Playstation game. What bollocks

Death Proof is the only modern one I can think of. In an interview QT said he wanted to make a movie with old school muscle and do it with real drivers and real stunts not modern fillm editing techniques.
