I'll help, here is a list of some I've seen, some I've been looking for (some for years).
If you liked French Connection (or any US police flick of the 70s, for that matter), you'll
love this :
The Seven-Ups (1973) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070672/
Possibly the best movie car chase ever :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vACWV5sRcY
The Driver (1978) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077474/
To Live and Die in LA (1985) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090180/
It's a Friedkin movie, it can't be bad.
[EDIT : I just saw that one on TV last week. While it's a good movie, it certainly can't be called a car movie, unless you're REALLY into 80's Chevies]
Fear Is the Key (1972) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068576/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLmk0x94wNU
A Gran Torino 1972, and Barry Newman, who needs more incentive?
More American Graffiti (1979) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079576/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjOPtMoROoA
Hot Rod (1979) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl6eTH9k6ws
Hi-riders (1978) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076140/
The California Kid :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071268/ and

The Master Touch (1972) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069446/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzlnhz4V3Y8

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059641/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORq50aQWVDI
Red Line 7000 :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082619/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KynMbNsDCfY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz0ZY0xvGdw

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097029/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwxkCQPSr10
Greased Lightning (1977) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076106/
If you like Can-am cars, you should check out :
The Last Chase (1981) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082642/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIqoGOSyLfc
A bit cheesy, but high-speed driving with a Canam Porsche on abandoned country roads while being chased by cops riding tricycles has to be cheesy one way or the other...
Generally, any 1970s movie done by Roger Corman, or starring either Warren Oates, John Carradine or Peter Fonda may appeal to us car maniacs.
For example :
Death Race 2000, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, Deathsport...
American Graffiti (under 1 million dollars, filmed in just 29 days)
The driverless vehicle story is a style in itself :
Maximum Overdrive :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091499/
I should say this about the latter movie, it's the only movie Stephen King ever directed, he always had others direct movies adapted from his books afterwards.
That must mean something. However, I like this movie (I'm easy to please), but most people don't (and while there are vehielss in it, it's neither cars, nor muscle cars)
The Car :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075809/
The Wraith :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092240/
Additionnaly, any movie related to moonshiners is bound to be a good one.
Dixie Dynamite :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074415/
White Lightning :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070915/ (has a sequel called Gator :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074564/ )
Moonrunners (1975) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071854/
Moonshine County Express (1977) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076409/
Some friends tell me this is a must-see :
Fast Company (1979) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079138/
I'm curious about this one :
Nitro (2007) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790602/ and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QegqLS83FFw
(and no, these guys don't speak French! but it's too damn funny to hear)
and also this one :
Redline (2007) :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780595/
I like this one, although it's a documentary, not a movie :
Funny Car Summer (1974)
Check out Wrong side Of The Art, there's a section for carsploitation movie posters :
http://www.wrongsideoftheart.com/catego ... loitation/
Lots of other movies there too...
On a side note, I've recently seen an interview of Sarafian, he was saying 20th Century Fox made him use Barry Newman in his movie because 'his dad went to all the Italian funerals in NY and had connections...'
The car was not scheduled to be a Challenger (Ford Shelby says Sarafian), but in return for favors from Chrysler to the Fox studios (lots of free cars), the guy in charge of the cars for Sarafian showed him a Challenger, he said OK, and Chrysler gave them 5 cars.
If anyone spends two hours on internet watching videos, it's not my fault! You guys are too curious!
Before I run back home, there's also a Challenger in Terminal Velocity, I think (but that's no car movie). Also in Natural Born Killers, Blind Horizon,
