There is a thought. How do you get air to the F1 engine that drives the fuel pump? You don't want an air intake in the 1000mph airstream. That would be one hell of a supercharger.

Great animation of what the run should look like. Sort of.

No high speed test runs until well into next year now. But hopefully a new world record of around 800mph will be set before moving up to the "big" rocket and pushing to break 1000mph.

It is the technology that is going into this that I find the most interesting. Right up to the 70s it was always just a case of more powerful engines.

Gary Gabelich was damn lucky not to be killed when they strapped him into that 620mph Blue Flame rocket car in 1970. He was badly injured in a funny car crash and eventually killed in a motor cycle accident in 1984 (a year after Richard Noble broke his record in Thrust 2). I guess his luck finally ran out.

But that was the limit to the "bigger is better" type of rough engineering. Anything going that fast (and faster) at ground level is entering a whole different engineering world which we are only just starting to understand.

Good News!

Rolls Royce are officially backing the program and are allowing the team to use their test bed facilities.

Going that fast ,obviously they are being very careful, but to get the project put back by 12 months must be frustrating to say the least :o

I still get amazed every time I see Thrust SSC going through the sound barrier in Nevada. To think they are looking to go so much faster in basically one step is pretty scarey stuff.

I was there the day before they did that run. Drove a '57 Chevy rental back then.
15 years later returning with my own car.
2 memorable visits to a magnificient place.

Today here in Rotterdam it will get almost 100 degrees; sure brings the desert back in mind.
Indeed I miss the view of a vanishing point.
Such a difference with here, in the over-crowded western part of Holland..
No location for a land speed record (to get back on topic  )

Good update this one. Some LRS cars from History and information about the EJ200 jet engine and how to get full power at low speeds.

Very informative update. :s002: Amongst other things it gives a small insight into some of the advantages of having a trained fighter pilot as your driver. He's contributing far more to this project than just PR and pilot/ driver ability. Top man. :s017:

Also saw somewhere (don't recall where offhand) yesterday where Triumph is building a LRS motorcycle. Several pictures/articles found using seach engine of your choice.

Found this;

The Castrol "Rocket" features two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a combined 1,000+ hp.

It was exactly 30 years ago that Thrust 2 broke the World Land Speed Record - 633mph - and brought the record back to Britain.

In other news, the tides are bending the chassis on the Bloodhound.
