There are no facts to the story at all. Just one of those urban legends that just keep going around and around etc...

They use those booster rockets in planes like the C-130 Hercules to take off from aircraft carriers. I'm pretty sure they tested this in Mythbusters once but cant remember the season or the episode number but probably isnt that hard to find out if someone is interested.

The 'boosters' on the C-130 are JATO tubes. (Jet assisted takeoff)They are like small rockets and offer a few hundred pounds of boost at takeoff with heavy loads. They 'burn out' in a few seconds. I used to see em sometimes on land based runways with short takeoff points but only saw a JATO takeoff 2 times I think. On the dude who 'configured' a modern Jet engine to his shivy. It would weigh a few tons maybe more, a large engine would weigh 2-4 times as much as the car maybe more. I doubt this happened at all. but it's funny reading. There was a the 'Michigan City Madman" he took a 1960 Dodge Dart station wagon and placed a Allison Tank Engine in it. he was 'almost' killed numerous times and is still alive in his 70's and wrote a book onhis exploits.

Eddie!
We can strap one of those JATO tube's on your Challenger. Disconnect the speedo cable, so you can keep the mile's off. The 150 speedo won't do any good, anyway. :s003: And we'll break any Dodge Challenger, land speed record's ever!!!! I'll do this with you but, no launching into the cliff's! :s024: :bonk:

Yeah I know Bro,,,hey it was great thought and I like your style of thinking. Maybe I'll have that 500 stroker done by then and we can put it in the PowerWagon 4x4,,it would be at home in the Southwest desert with JATO boost and an insane driver from the PNW area that has survived a snow avalanche in a tunnel for 2 days. :s024:

Jay Leno also has a jetbike http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/at-the-ga ... superbike/ More on Jay's jetbike http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/search/?search=jet+bike
