Another first for Chrysler?

When i was installing my remote door mirror, i could clearly see the heavy side intrusion bars inside the door. Now the Challenger was originally conceived in 1965 with the final design accepted a year or so later. I am just wondering if this advanced safety feature was a first for a Detroit built car? I can't speak for Euro cars which have always been in the lead for safety and engineering innovation, but US design? Chrysler have been first in many features, well i can only speak for the Australian Chryslers - First car with a V8, electronic ignition, fender indicator repeaters, collapsible steering column, torsion bars, more instrumentation etc. I would be interested to know if any other Detroit built cars had side intrusion bars before this.

No problemo ... its a sort of "up in the air" post anyway. I am pretty sure i know of someone who would know, and thats Rick Ehrenberg, the Editor of Mopar Action magazine. He seems to have vast quantities of interesting info stored in his brain.

I was actually thinking of mounting a roller skate on top of a helmet. That way if i got upside down I could just keep on rolling.
