Really pleased you posted that Barry. I have been a BIG fan of the turbine cars for many many years. I would rather own one of those than a Challenger even!

Bob, you know about the Turbine car we have here in TH dont you? It's one of the original Engineering Cars and was featured on Dennis Gages TV Car show,"My Classic car". It's owned by Frank Kleptz/Jay Leno,(Jay gave Frank the transmission to the car and Frank allegedly gives the car to leno after his passing, he's in his late 80's) and he drives it around in parades and such. They are fascinating cars, but I wouldnt trade my R/T's lug nut for one!! (No Offense Dave)

I have a big interest in turbine engines Eddie.

The first turbine engines (steam) were created by Charles Parsons here in my home town. Most of the worlds ships and power stations used to be run with Parsons turbines. Many of my Buddies worked there making them until they went out of business in the last recession. What was left is now part of the Siemens group.

He also made telescopes - another passion of mine - and I did some work experience there as a schoolboy when they were making the Anglo-Australian telescope. I got to see the great mirror being polished and fine tuned.

Oh and let us not forget Sir Frank Whittle, the inventor of the gas turbine and jet engine.

And don't forget that the British car manufacturer Rover unveiled the first car powered with a gas turbine engine in 1950.

Eddie, I did not know about that one. I would love to hear one run. They had one at a Mopar show here in Indy a few years back. It belonged to a museum. I can not remember which one though. In fact, I can't remember much anymore. Too much "partying" in the 70's

You too huh! Seriously, Frank kleptz is an old fart, I got into an argument with him last year. But yeah, he has arguably, one of the nations finest collections of rare Chryslers here in terre haute, Indiana. Sorry, NO muscle cars except 1 Hemi car, a 50's BIG Chrysler!LOl, but yeah, he is the Turbine car 'guru' his is in show quality condition, has been in numerous media publications, like old cars weekly, hemmings motor news, ectt,, we are scheduled to visit his museum sometime this spring of 09, if I can, remember, I'll sneak in my digi-cam and take some pics of all the Chrysler Turbine stuff he has and post them for you and Dave in the future. I lost probably 50% of my hearing from those turbine starters in the AF on the flightline. Damned things are loud!

This car is at the Monster Mopar Weekend show every September. they run it around the grounds a couple times a day

I also took up bird watching. At least that is what i told everyone I was doing. Mostly my telescope was trained on the teenage girl that used to sunbathe next door.

I wonder if the V-8 car it 'blew away" was a Chevy or Ford?

All I can say about the turbine cars is wow. In 2006 when my wife and I went to the USA we seen 3 turbine cars, 1 at the ford museum and the walter P chysler museum in detroit and 1 at the gilmore museum in michigan.
