Snow in England

Postby Adrian Worman » 28 Oct 2008 21:22

Hi ya mates
This weathers crazy. 3 weekends ago I was skipping along the beach on the south coast in 25 degree sunshine. At least I got to chuck snowballs at my lovely wife this evening.
Is it bad up there with you Dave?
Go carefully on them roads. My bike was all over the place.

Not a cloud in the sky up here mate. Bright sunshine. But it is not getting much above freezing. No ice on the roads even during the night except (I am told) out of town in the rural areas.

Been wearing my balaclava and a hat when cycling into work. Still bloody cold. :s004:

I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath ( about 60 miles north of London) from Jan of 71 to July of 73. I remember a lot of fog and black ice but only saw it snow one time. Had about 1/2 inch in it was gone in about 3 hours. How much do you have this time?

That was a bad storm. It seems that the weather has gone crazy all over the world. Our prayers will be with those affected by the storm

Fortunatly that was confined to a single 2 mile area. But what a storm! You see how deep that stuff is? One guy on TV was describing how he had to carry his grandchild on his shoulders while wading through a flood chest deep outside his trailer with 18 inch thick mini "iceburgs" floating on the top.

Dale where you there when the Aliens Landed? I saw it on the History Channel a few years ago. They had an 'incident'. There were numerous militay Personnel that witnessed it. It was described from Airmen to a Lt. Col that were there. It was in the early 70's at a US Base in the U.K., I forget the exact base. Maybe your's?

That was a wild hail storm, Dave! I only got to see one like this in person, once. Helena, Montana, 1982. I don't know how many car's, it totaled out but, our's was one of them. I remember the street's flooding with, what looked like three foot snow bank's. Every west side window, on every house smashed. Hole's in the roove's. This hail ranged form Golf ball, to bigger than softball size. It looked like a giant white wall moving into town. We never had anything like that in the northwest. I was 16 in 1982, and this thing left a mark on my memory. Maybe, it was because I got nailed by one of the hailstone's, trying to move the family car under a tree. Didn't work, car still got trashed. Shattered grill, marker light's and glass. Not to mention, all the pock mark's throughout the body. My folk's had just bought this "Ford Fairmont", brand new. After being totaled by the insurance co., they bought it back for $400.00. We had this car for many year's, it was joyfully called,"Crater Car". Another thing that I remember well is, while checking the damage throughout, we passed a Chevrolet Dealer. There were some Corvette's on the outside lot. The bodie's of the car's looked like shredded wheat, on a frame.
Didn't mean to ramble, just thought I would share.
