does any one know whats up with the chrome band onthe front of the car in 71 only....some have some dont....more dont ive noticed....what determins that...is it a package or what.....always wanted to know the story?

While it is the M28 - Wide Grille Surround, not everything in that thread is correct. It was not a mid year option and it was not available with elastomeric bumpers. It was a standalone option on all models, including the coupe.

Indeed it was not a mid year option. I own an 802 date coded Dealer Promo SHOW car whcih came with the M28 Wide Chrome treatment as well as a few other goodies.
