Thanks for the complement's  (and jokes  ). It actually went a little higher than that, so I'm told and watching the video of the other runs it carries the fronts about 55 to 57ft out. The next achievement is to click the 60ft timers with the back wheels :D
I know that wheelstanding costs a bit in ET but it just looks so cool.
Thanks guys, were off to Santa Pod for 6 days next week so if we do anything else spectacular I'll let you know.
Cheers

We won't be going to the HRD's as we're going to the 'pod twice in sept. Besides, the car doesn't make the cut off (pre ('72?). As far as I'm aware they don't do the radical thing anymore :(
Anyway the launch is quite graceful and gentle, it seems to draw the wheels off the floor and keep going 'till they're about 3 - 3 1/2 ft off the ground then slowly come back down in a slow arc. It carries them long enough to hit the rev limiter in 1st gear, i'm still learning to change gear while it's up in the air while I'm looking out of the side window to see if we are drifting to one side. :D :D

How about adding a telescope? :? Maybe you can find one cheap in a submarine junkyard? It would add a little weight though...

I Can relate to power shifting in the air but only on a bike. That would be pretty special to do it in Challenger.

I seem to remember some of the wheelie cars having perspex windows in the floor to see forwards and independant rear wheel braking to "steer".

Well nothing to report from 'pod as it was a washout for all the sportsman classes :( , we considered "crashing" the HRD's but forecast is none too promising and I'm fed up with sitting in the rain  . Hopefully it will be better at the national finals :s002:

btw, because of the Euro finals washout, 'pod are putting on a 6 car, fuel funny v's top fuel shootout if anyones interested.

Quick (ish) report from the National finals. Weather was good, car was doing wheelies again but not so hi. We ran in the mid to lo 9.7's all weekend and we got to the semi's. One timing ticket told us we had the potential to go 9.60's as we were a whole 1/10th up at the 590 ft marker (strange increment I know but thats the pod for ya). Our .03 light v's the other lanes .50 meant we backed off at the 1/8 th and cruised to the win. Mph was down a tickle and alternator voltage was erratic at hi rpm, though it didn't cause any misfires. Checked it out when we got home and the alternator ground was bad, probably due to the anodised bracketry that holds it on. Anyway we ran a seperate earth from the block to alternator and the gauge showed we picked up 1v at idle, now the gauge reads 14.3 v and doesn't drop when the accessories are started. Also the idle has cleaned up. I've heard that these MSD systems can cause the engine to lose power if the input voltage isn't correct so maybe we could have picked up a bit  . Motor and box are coming out for a freshen up and more mods / upgrades as we need to find another 100hp to reach our ET targets. It never ends :D
Thanks.

There is always some little gremlin in there. But it sounds as if you are keeping them well under control at the moment. Good result and fingers crossed for even better.

You must give us the full spec of the engine and chassis when you can Dave. The car has evolved so much since the first time I ever saw it on the street in Darlington that I have got no idea where it is at now. :blushes:

One of my many spies took these photos of the engine using a camera disguised as a hotdog.

Look at those fancy headers! 8)

Where do I start, this is gonna be long! :D .
The car is usually street legal. We've had a few engine teething troubles, since this is a new combination from last year, waiting for parts to get stuff sorted discouraged us from getting it taxed (It's a '74 so we have to pay! ) It's only done 41 passes and we've altered and found out stuff as we've gone along.
Ok, so it's a 572ci motor. Callies crank, Oliver rods and CP gas ported pistons. K/B Aluminium block with ported Indy -13 heads. Jesel 1.6 arms. Smith bros 3/8 ball/ball pushrods . Comp Cams Roller and valve train (more to follow). Ported 440-3x single 4500 intake. 1200cfm custom dominator by Pro Systems. Headers are 2 1/4 inch custom stainless steel with 4 inch merge collectors. 250 gph pump and - 12 line, return is -6. Moroso electric water pump. Aluminium rad with twin fans thermostatically controlled (for quicker warm up) 4 vane Vac pump. Super stock Milodon sump, dual line external oiling system and hi vol MP pump. The only real Chrysler parts in it are the oil pump and the aluminium water pump housing  . It's fixed to the car with a 10mm, one piece motor plate. The 727 'box is modified too. Steel drum, kolene steels, red plates, billet survo's, Low band apply valve body oiling mods, etc etc. I do my own gearboxes. This goes to a 4:10 dana 60 with stock 4 spider suregrip and moser 35 spline axles. 29.5 x true 10.5 slicks on centre line convo pro's. 29 x 4 et fronts. Caltrac rear springs and system. stock front with CE 3 ways.
There's a little bit more left in the heads, they can be ported a bit more but at the cost of some low lift flow . Most suprising is it want's more cam now!. At the moment it's a solid roller .737" (theoretical) lift with zero lash (we usually have 16 -18 thou of lash), retarding the cam 4 degrees, it picked up a solid 2 /10ths which equals about 30 hp at this level. We could do with some more lift and duration on the intake and a little more duration on the exhaust. A custom cam would be the order of the day here.
Car has a full 14 point cage thats tagged to 8.50 It weighs over 3850lb w/driver, the only 'glass part is the bonnet (hood). The back seat is only half there because of the cage but the rest of the interior is all there with Kirkey alloy seats and some extra gauges. Last winter it had a full repaint and a bit of bodywork repair. We also got some new trim weather stripping etc . Just a couple more pieces and the restification bit would be done. I've probably left loads out though.
Best et is 9.71 and 140 mph but we're always looking to improve :P

Ps Dave, thanks for posting the "report" on the MMA site

Thanks Eddie .The bottom end is fairly stout and arguably uses some of the best / high end pieces. Bryant billet cranks are reputed to be the ultimate in the crank dept, some people would argue for carillo rods and wiseco or maybe diamond pistons. KB blocks are the best but unfortunately the company is for sale  . Anyway we went for a good base as we intend to eventually use an f3 blower on it

I thought you said you were just looking for "another 100hp"?
That's what my mate Tim calls "sand bagging". :D

I think you have the strength dept. 'covered' F3 Pro-Charger? Sweet! Yep, I see that KB is for sale and GM&Chrysler are in talks to 'merge' as 1 company. I hope this helps your drag racing pursuits!
