Someones gotta try that at home.

I know from experience spending alot of time on the phone would give me an ache in the inner ear. Sometimes so bad I would have to tell the other person, call you back later when I get to a land line. And no it wasn't my wife on the line. :s024:

Usually I do not speak in cell phones very often or for a very long time. When I do that for 5-10 minuters or more, it feels like an area close to my ear is becoming heated. I use to solve that by moving the phone to the other ear... :s022:

Yes the video is just a fake. Good one though. :D

People have been trying to prove mobile phones can damage the brain in some way for years but up to now there is no evidence for it at all.

Nor are they a danger when filling your car with petrol. Yet on the garage forecourts here they still have signs up telling you to switch off your mobile before filling the car. Very silly.

Exactly Christer, that's what happens to me also.

I worked for a guy that would not put a cell phone to his ear. He always used a wired ear piece. It really made me wonder as he is very smart, and health conscience. :|

Dave, what do you think about the signs in the hospitals that tell you turn off the cell? Could it really interfere with the their equipment or just to keep the noise down?

How do you know that? We discussed it at the job, but we were not sure about what to believe.

I do not think it matters very much if you are smart or not. Nobody knows anything for sure anyway. Do your own judging and use a bit of common sence, and you will get along quite well. My idea is that if you are using a cell phone for hours each day, then a wired ear piece is a must. If you just do it for a couple of minutes each day, then you do not need this extra wire ear piece. Just my opinion.... :D

I didn't say they don't interfer with sensative electronic equipment because I know they do.
Monitoring equipment in particular because often the signals used are very low voltage and a mobile signal can cause enough background interference on the signal as to make it meaningless.

But to heat an object you need a certain amount of energy. Even 4 mobiles put together like in the video cannot produce even a tiny temperature rise let alone enough power to pop corn.

Your ear probably gets hot because the ear piece on a cell phone requires you to press the damn thing hard against your ear.

Interesting point about the hospitals Jon. I had to visit my Dad in a local NHS unit for a month jist recently and everyone, patients and staff, used 'em all the time. I was amazed.

I think the possibility of heating popcorn using 4 phones is a little far fetched. I do believe current and past cell phones are not healthy for your ear and probably the mater behind it.

These companies are amongst the most powerful lobbies in the US. Research study results maybe skewed a bit when big money is involved. Take a look at the use of cell phones in automobiles. They have been trying to ban them in California (of all places) for years. Everyone must know the dangers or seen idiots not paying attention while talking on them. The law finally goes into effect next month. A small fine is the penalty for being cited. :s021:

I do not agree with that. Why? I do not get the same feeling of warmth when I use other types of phones (which I of course hold in a same way as a cell phone.). :s022:

Yes, you are right. Today, they spoke about this on the telly. It is a modern myth spreading through youtube and other sources. Apparently they must have some kind of hidden heat source.

Yet another mystery solved. Hey, who the h--l started this thread from the beginning? :hmmm:

Other phones don't always have a colour LCD screen radiating infra red radiation into your skin.

Not all phones have colour display and usually backlight is turns itself off after a while. It heats you ear not only due radio transmissions but also because phone itself gets warm. Battery heats when it's discharged and there's plenty of electronics inside phone to get hot. Phone is inefficient causing large part of energy from battery turning to heat. Just like your 440 and every other combustion engine wastes energy as heat rather than converting it all to rotary motion.

See, I'm trying to bring bit on-topic content to off-topic posts, unlike Dave who does his best to turn everything off-topic. :)
