1977 Plymouth Volare'.

Postby patrick » 30 May 2008 5:02

I've been looking for a good little car for my daughter. It will be her first. I found, by chance, a 77' Volare. Slant six, power steering, manual brake's, disc up front. Two door. Half a vinyl top. All original paint and vinyl in great shape. Interior in great shape, too. It's copper color, with a beige top. Interior is brown. No dent's, no scratche's. Bumper's are so nice, they make my Challenger cry. 113,000 mile's. And Rallye Rim's, too. "The bad". Air conditioning doesn't work. cruise control doesn't work. It has a B&M floor shift that kind of bang's against the front bench seat. It has a Quadrajet 4 Barrel carb, with a addapter for a two Barrel intake. :? Run's very strong though. No bogging down. :D What would you guy's pay for something like this? :?: He want's $1000.00 U.S. I'd have some Pic's for you but, cheap plan on my company cell phone prohibit's transfer.
Thank's, Pat

The main thing is making sure it is a safe car for your daughter. You can't put a price on that.

I told him, what a piece of crap it is. Bought it for $850.00. If Sidney, my daughter, can't stand it. :s005: I'll trade her staight across ,for my Nisson Sentra. Made in Tennessee. It's Modern, you know. My wife is used to brand new car's. And the girl's are, too. I'm comfortable with all my old Mopar "Relic's". I'm thinking, I don't have to travel to Vancouver, anymore. I'll take the slant Six, Mopar, to work. I plan on gutting the thing out but, I love how the car perform's as it is. :D Car has good brake's, and believe it or not, Factory sway bar's. At least, up front. Haven't aquired the car yet but, will keep you up to date. Doesn't really act like any slant Six, I've ever driven. :p:

Congrats Pat! Nice ride and no rust! For 850.00 and the leaning tower of Power you cant go wrong. Hell, the whells are worth that to someone restoring a similar RoadRunner model,(all 3 of them), just kidding big guy! BTW, that engine even with minimal care,(oil&filter change), will last an easy 300k. But the main thng is the apparent lack of corrosion. Just for shits&giggles Pat look under the front end and get back with us! Oh and your daughter is HOT! I wouldnt want to be her 'terrified' boyfriend though!LOL  For safetys sake get rid of that plastic fuel filter and make sure the manual brakes are in good shape and she should be safe just fine.

Screamin' Deal! That slant six'll last forever! Drove a 67 valiant as my first car, and the bad brakes and horrible cornering sure made me pay attention! I think it makes you pay attention a lot more as a young kid on the road if you're driving something that requires focus to control as opposed to a new car that you can point anywhere and it will go. You dont get a feel for where the danger line is for newer cars until you're past it. Point in case: everyone in my graduating class has spent at least one car, except for myself and another person. The other guy drove a 65 mustang 6 cylinder as his daily transportation.

Had a 68 coronet 4 door we used as a field car as a kid, and we used to beat the crap out of that engine! With 140,000 on it, we were doing donuts, powerslides through the mud, damn near airborne over the ruts in our field. Ran the thing for 10 minutes with no water after a radiator hose pulled off before we noticed it. Darn thing runs as good as my Valiant with only 39,000 on it.

Thank's for the input, guy's. The brake's are in good shape, for now. It depend's on how my daughter's driving habbit's progress. They would probabley last me a few year's. But, if she ride's them all the time, probabley will have to replace before Christmas. :s006: I do believe the car is very safe. It handle's surprisingly well. I never would have thought that the factory would have put sway bar's in a slant six car. It has good tread on the tire's, even though, they are white wall's. I'm going to knock it off on the Volare talk. I think I can hear my Chally growling at me. She think's I like the Volare, only because, it a half a ton lighter.

Very good buy Patrick. I have never heard the slant six called "the leaning tower of power". That is funny, but a very good engine.

Is feels rather unusual to have a 4bbl carb on a six banger. 390 cfm? How many extra hp do you think it gives?

Nice car!

www.cliffordperformance.com take note of the TBI injection system. I would be very nice to get 25-30 MPG in the sixer! Another man that has dedicated his life to /6 performance is Doug Dutra@ www.dutra.org click the dutra duals link, lots of tech there big guy! I like the Mexican food site as well, the Burritos are Killer,(And no damned Gravy)~!~! :s009:

Cool!

Recently this intake was for sale: New Clifford aluminum webber sidedraft intake. Will fit all 1960-85 170,198 and 225 slant six chrysler engines. Also cool, eh?

I had sidedraft Webers on my first car and I just canĀ“t forget them. :|

I think it's more like 450 cfm. there is a 1/2" spacer between the addapter and carb. Exhaust is 2.5, with a 40 series Flowmaster. Like I told, Eddie, sound's tough, for a grandma car. 8) Feel's a lot more like a miled build, 318 car, don't know how many horse power but, feel's way more than 10 H.P. :s004: . When I go for ride's with my daughter, I have to constently get on her about peeling out. :s021: She say's she can't help it. She driven the Challenger twice. Same story. I told her that I would cure her on this car, like I did with the Chally. No more driving. :madd:

Another thing about the /6 is the oil change pat. You'll see what I mean when you observe the oil filter. Take a Plastic milk jug gallon, and remove the top but keep the handle attached. Then when removing the filter slide it below the filter as best as you can and it will save you big mess. I meant 10 extra H.P.! :s024: BTW, Pro-Charger must have seen this setup and produced their own Forced induction for the /6! I would rather be turboed than blown! Scanner is down!
