Gas Prices?

Gas hit $3.65 a gallon for 87 octane here in Indiana. Just curious what some of the other board members are paying.

Here is a list I got from CNN.
Bob

Gas prices around the world

Think you pay a lot for gas? Perhaps you'd prefer to live in Venezuela.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

In a few Latin America and Middle-East nations, such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens, he said. All prices updated March, 2005.

Nation City Price in USD Regular/Gallon
Netherlands Amsterdam $6.48
Norway Oslo $6.27
Italy Milan $5.96
Denmark Copenhagen $5.93
Belgium Brussels $5.91
Sweden Stockholm $5.80
United Kingdom London $5.79
Germany Frankfurt $5.57
France Paris $5.54
Portugal Lisbon $5.35
Hungary Budapest $4.94
Luxembourg $4.82
Croatia Zagreb $4.81
Ireland Dublin $4.78
Switzerland Geneva $4.74
Spain Madrid $4.55
Japan Tokyo $4.24
Czech Republic Prague $4.19
Romania Bucharest $4.09
Andorra $4.08
Estonia Tallinn $3.62
Bulgaria Sofia $3.52
Brazil Brasilia $3.12
Cuba Havana $3.03
Taiwan Taipei $2.84
Lebanon Beirut $2.63
South Africa Johannesburg $2.62
Nicaragua Managua $2.61
Panama Panama City $2.19
Russia Moscow $2.10
Puerto Rico San Juan $1.74
Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91
Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78
Egypt Cairo $0.65
Nigeria Lagos $0.38
Venezuela Caracas $0.12

I saw 3.49 a few times but there are still a couple hold outs at 3.39.

Also noted that a handful of stations are closed.

I must say, filling up today after three weeks really shocked me. Including two 5 gallon cans of diesel for the tractor which were 45 dollars, (Not long a go it was 15 bucks for the two) it totaled over $135. That's some serious change. :disbelief:

So the price is rising all over the world?. We sound pretty cheap comparably. I read heavy taxing of fuel is common in many countries. In Russia it is over 70% of the oil companies profits.

Fuel and personal transportation are just a factor of life where we live in the US. Maybe gluttons, but that's the way the economy has been. I must drive a long ways to the job site in a 18 mile per gallon truck to carry equipment and tools. My last project was in Bakersfield, a two and a half hour drive each way. How efficient is that?

Getting upwards of 3.70 here in Connecticut due to state taxes.

Its a bit ridiculous, because massachusetts is often a quarter cheaper. I live near the state line so I often drive into mass. to get my gasoline.

Next project after the Challenger is definitely my '48 harley so I can save some change during this summer.

We pay about 19,76$/ u.s gallon here in Sweden for 95 octane! (75 $/Litre) And the E85 goes about 14$/ u.s gallon :tears: :worry: :s006: :s005: :rage: :hmmm: :V8: :bonk:

About $10 a US gallon here.

I read somewhere recently that the oil companies are only making around two pence (5 cents US) profit on each gallon of petrol. Their huge profits come from the volume of barrels sold around the world.

The remainder of that cost of a gallon is made up of the costs of locating/ refining/ delivering the petrol, plus government taxes.

Assuming that's correct, even if the oil companies give petrol away with no profit mark- up whatsoever, we're still stuffed. :(

I think the margin is bigger than that, Tim. The gas stations I believe are the ones making 5 cents or so on a gallon, because of the prices the oil company sells for. Probably around 10 or 15 cents for the oil companies. Still not much of a reduction, though. :disbelief:

I do not follow you there.

1 gallon = 3.75 litres
1 litre gas costs about 13 Skr (= $2.2)
1 gallon costs about 2.2*3.75= $8.25

Lucky for us that the tax rate in our country is world leading at 51%. :s006:
Ooops, I forgot that this is not a political board. Sorry.

You are right Christer, i have no idea where that came from, :s023: Even with the imperial gallon it is far from that :s006: (once again, why can't we all have the same measurements) But still, it is expensive... and our politics make it hard to be a fan of :V8:

$3.75 per gallon of reg. 87 octane here in the Northwest. $3.95 for the juice, my car want's. I really feel for you boy's oversea's. :( A positive note. Us guy's with vintage Challenger's have a reason for keeping original mile's low. a negative note. Us guy's, that just want to go to a car show, or just a movie with our date. $45.00, just for gas. And it's only going to get worse. I live 45 mile's from anywhere. :bonk: On this same subject. What do you guy's think of the almost $3000.00 Gas Guzzler TAX on the new Challenger? :rage: And from what I've heard, they're going to TAX us old guy's too!!! :madd: Letting off some steam, Pat

I'll add this. When our car's came out, Octane level's were near 100 octane. I have to add additive's to mine to get it to run right. Sure, I could tune mine down a bit. But, why would I, we, do that. :s021: I hear about these Internet scam's, saying,"Boycot gas for just one day." And we'll get lower prices. :disbelief: It's going to get worse before, it ever get's better. :x

I think that would be a good idea. Boycotting gas for a day or so...

Seeing as how Challengers owned by board members are probably 50% of gas sales every day, I think a boycott would be effective. :s006:

haha! But really, i think this should be a great idea if somebody was able to organize this... Not only Challenger owners of course..

Sorry, Christer Sweden is not the worldleader in tax pressure any more!

Denmark 48,4%
Sweden 47,8%

Only #2 after Denmark. Lucky me working and pay tax i Denmark!!!! :D

Not political just a statement.

Curious, is that a fuel tax at 51%, or the overall tax burden? Neither one is very motivating to achieving prosperity. :s001:

I had a good year back in 2005 after a long term financial commitment finally paid off. The taxes before deductions amounted to around 45%.

Those were pretty tough checks to write in favour of ol' Arnold and Uncle Sam. They weren't even along for the potential downside either. Just collected their shares at the end.

Not being political either but close to being pissed off. :s023:

Regular grade gas is $1.80 in Brownsburg, Indiana.
I hope it stays low but I bet after the election it will sky rocket again.
I feel sorry for Shell. They only squeaked out a $14 billion profit last quarter.

Dang, how can they survive on that? :s001: Maybe they'll get a bailout check too.
I know :!: maybe everyone can pull the last $20 out of their savings so the executives won't have to forgo their vacation on the Riveria on their megayachts :s024:

Perfect time to burn some 94 Octane! E-85 is 2.29/Gallon@105 Octane(ROM) more expensive now than regular grade unleaded 87 Octane.

Paid $3.36 for 91 octane today, that's the best we have here. Diesel is down finally though, $2.99 per gallon. Being that cheap it was time to "punch-it" in the truck to clean out the old Dura Max.

1.89 for E-85!!

I did hear the oil companies are cutting production to artificially drive the price back up.

Sorry fella's. :(
