II just purchased the yellow A66 4 speed that was on ebay. The seller informed me that there is no broadcast sheet and that the LA built cars often did not have one. Is this correct? It also doesnt have wood trim insert in doors which is supposed to be rare. Anyone ever hear of that (door panels are original)? I also wondered about the originality of the steering wheel on this car.?I dont have the car yet, it is en route from Cally. I hope it is all that the seller says it is ( he seems to be a straight up guy). I am really excited about it as I have been looking for a 4 speed 340 matching #'s car for a while. I am new to the forum and it appears to have a great group of guys. Thanks for any input.

Hey 440 6 Pack,
Now YOU have a car. Damn that is impressive. I drove a 440 6 pack RR once and I am still trying to scrape my eyeballs off the back window. I have only dreamed of owing a Challenger like yours. Besides, I only have one set of eyeballs which is why I settled for a small block. It goes without saying that I love your color combo.

Door panel's are not original. On the Challenger, They all had the wood grain. Don't know about the steering wheel but, I like it. And even on L.A. car's, they had build sheet's.
You know where the #'s are. If it's a #'s matching car. Core support, cowl, dash, and driver's door, Engine, tranny and rear end, should all match.
Hope that's what you have!
Don't mean to be negative but, I've heard the #'s match, no rust sale's gimmick, before in my own quest.
Just looking out for my challenger brother's.

Model year product change notice:
1/9/70: The woodgrain door panel trim that was originally standard on all cars ordered with leather and cloth and vinyl interior trims is now standard on all Challengers.
You can read more about it here if you are intrested.

It is called a Tuff steering wheel. It is an option steering wheel for the a- and b-bodies. It was never factory mounted on e-bodies, but it fits very well in an e-body so I suggest that you keep it. PN: 4039FX9 between 1970-1973, PN P006XJ9 in 1974. I believe it was manufactured until the late seventies or something. The wheel in your car looks like a repro wheel to me.

Wrong! LA built cars NEVER (
) have broadcast sheets due to a clean car policy in the factory.
BTW; Welcome to the board and good luck with your car.

Welcome Charlie. That is a sweet car that you purchased. Christer is correct about the options on your car. Let us know the the codes on the fender tag when you can, There are people on here that can accurately decipher the codes for you if you would like. Plus we all love pictures.

Welcome charliek!
And gongratulations to your car, it sure looks like a beautie. I think your door panels looks great without the wood trim, why does everybody need to have the same look? And the steering wheel sure looks super nice compared to the steering wheel with only two spokes that was originally mounted in mine, and the grip looks more solid/thicker... (nothing bad meant to you guys that have that steering wheel) I just mean never mind if it is original or not, i would keep it like that- Looks nice!

Good to have another a66 on the board. The door panels on mine (Oct 69 build) don't have the wood inserts. No build sheets found either and it's an LA built car. Here is a picture of the steering wheel that it came with. Hope this helps.
BTW what is your vin number something like JH23HOE......?

LA broadcast sheets are scarce but they do exist. The only way for you to know for sure if you have one or not is to search the whole car for them, look here;
Taped to the back side / top of the glove box insert.
Under the front bucket seats in the springs
Inside the bucket seat backs
Under the rear seat bottom
In the rear seat back.
Under the package tray(speaker shelf)
Under the carpet
Best of luck!

Thanks for all your imput. The VIN#:JH23H0E120146. I was also wondering if it should have engine call out on hood bulge stating it is 340 4 barrel. The owner told me that he looked everywhere and there was no build sheet to be found. Thanks again.

Hello Charlie,
It's great to see another A66 car on this board. If you would like to have a look at Vin/option codes/production numbers and go to page 2 and find 1970 A66 340 models. I have some good info you might like to read.
Darryl.

The answer to the door panels is that they are correct for your car, if it is an early build car . most Guys think that there wrong because they have never seen them before . Alot of changes were made to the Challenger as production went . As for the wheel it was an option and is called a tuff wheel and it was offered in challengers I have cut up Challengers with this wheel. It looks like a sweet ride enjoy. Sorry I just looked at the VIN and it is an early car by the number I say late August to some time in September, so the door panels are 100% correct . Steve.

Thanks for your replies,great forum.
I was also wondering about the engine call out on the hood bulge. Should there be a 340 4 Barrel on the hood? Also, Daryl wrote:

How do I get access to the above info?
Any A66 photos out there?

I believe that some of the cars got hood badges and some did not. This has been discussed before and you will probably find that information if you do the A66-search I suggested above.

The Tuff wheel was an A & B body option only starting in 1971.
This page shows the 1970 Challenger steering wheels;

There was one other steering wheel that came out about mid-model year that is not shown. It was identical to the std. wood grain wheel, but it had a smoth black rim and was only used in the A93 coupes.
There were only two steering wheels available for 1971 Challengers, one was std. for the Coupe models and all others got the woodgrain wheel;

Does anyone have an opinion on putting the 340 4 barrel call out on the hood bulge. My car doesnt have it but I think ithe hood looks naked. If it is optional what do you guys think?

I think that is up to you Charlie, it looks clean and sweet without any emblems, but i agree it is a nice touch up with that "340 4 barrel" emblem if you decide to add one...
(I would add the emblem, do i think it looks best with it)

I agree.
Keep in mind though that almost all non-stock mods will lower the value of the car.

Is the emblem considered non stock? I did the search Christer suggested but could not find any info on this. I think I may have liked the look of the hood without the black out.Thanks

Well, I find out something new every day
That's a very nice car you have there, Charlie.
Like I said before, I love that stearing wheel. I replaced my two spoke wheel, with a Grant,"Tuff" wood, steering wheel, last year.
And like Jimiboy said, nice to see some more 340 small block fan's on board.

Can't answer your question positively, but this is how the emblem would appear.

I like the way the numbers on the hood look but I do want to keep it as original as possible. There were no holes on the hood for the call out so I assume it came withtout it.l

Sorry bad picture. Are there holes drilled in the hood to place an emblem?
